Accounting Specialist - Midrand at SAIPA

Key Purpose

To support members with a variety of technical accounting queries, legislative guidance, and business advisory services.

Technical Support and Advisory:

• Respond to member technical accounting queries including IFRS, IFRS for SMEs, UIF, Workers’ Compensation, and other related standards and Provide detailed support.
• Develop working papers and templates to assist members with questions related to legislation such as the Companies Act, POPIA, and Basic Labor Relations Acts.
• Guide and respond to questions relating to business rescue processes and business advisory services including valuations and due diligence.

Educational and Event Management:

• Develop, prepare and present technical presentations to members on accounting standards like IFRS, GRAP, and more.
• Plan and execute the accounting indaba, including coordinating logistics for high-quality webinars.
• Identify topics, plan, and oversee the execution of webinars, ensuring they meet members’ needs and contribute to professional development.
• Host webinars, identify and collaborate with speakers, and assist in the review and sign-off of webinar content.

Strategic Initiatives and Compliance:

• Identify and apply for funding opportunities with SETA and FASSET; manage and oversee these programs from inception to completion, ensuring they are fully funded and compliant with grant requirements.
• Represent SAIPA in committees such as CIPC and PAFA technical committees.
• Engage in advocacy, preparing commentary for professional developments affecting the industry, influencing legislation, and regulatory standards.

Content Development and Publications:

• Produce and source technical news updates, contributing to SAIPA’s Professional Accountant Magazine and technical newsletters.
• Manage the SAIPA My Law Updates to members
• Monitor, comment on, and make submissions concerning exposure drafts and changes in accounting and assurance legislation and standards.

Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement:

• Establish and maintain targeted strategic partnerships with organizations such as RCB Forum, IFAC, and FASSET, CIPC
• Participate in a variety of committees and forums, aiming to influence developments shaping the profession and enhancing SAIPA’s visibility and impact.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualification

• Honors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

Experience

• 3 years Extensive knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and other accounting standards.
• 3 years Extensive knowledge of Legislation around and impacting the accounting profession
• 3 years Proven experience in managing and producing technical content.
