    Afrikaans Teacher

    • Herschel Girls School is looking for an innovative and progressive sports teacher who seeks the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and excellent staff and school. Herschel holds Physical Education and sport in high regard and strives to provide our pupils with opportunities to develop and succeed at the highest level, whilst cultivating a culture of participation and enjoyment in lifelong physical activity.

    The successful applicant will:

    • Have a relevant teaching/Physical Education qualification (BEd/PGCE/BSc in Movement Education).
    • Demonstrate a passion and a willingness to teach Physical Education and sport from Grade R – 7.
    • Have the ability to motivate pupils and coaches with a range of abilities and skills.
    • Demonstrate excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills.
    • Have experience or expertise in at least one of the following codes: hockey, netball, swimming, water polo, tennis, or cross-country and be willing to be a part of the extensive extra-curricular sport programme at the school, which includes travel and weekend activities.
    • Maintain and encourage a love for physical activity through participation.
    • Be open to ongoing personal and professional development to support change.
    • Have a healthy self-awareness and a well-developed sense of duty of care towards pupils and colleagues.
    • Hold at heart the school’s tagline of “leading the education of girls into a future of limitless possibilities” for oneself and for the pupils in one’s care. Herschel Girls School follows the IEB NSC qualification and is looking for an innovative and progressive teacher who seeks the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and excellent staff and school.

    The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified teacher in her/his field. The following criteria are essential:

    • A demonstrable passion for teaching Afrikaans up to and including Grade 12.
    • Experience in the IEB is an advantage.
    • A proven ability to establish a dynamic learning environment in the classroom and  to design a rich and relevant curriculum and lessons that nurture curiosity and intellectual agility.
    • The ability to integrate technology with confidence and flair to support a blended learning environment that engages students.
    • Excellent relational skills, which allow for the development of a progressive, safe, inclusive, and exciting teaching environment.
    • Healthy self-awareness and a well-developed sense of duty of care towards one’s students and one’s colleagues.
    • An understanding and appreciation of girls’ education and the nuances applicable to support the educational premise of nurturing confident, independent, caring, resolute, and inspiring young women.
    • The ability to explore a rapidly changing educational landscape with an openness and eagerness for ongoing professional and personal development to support change.
    • Excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills.
    • The skills and care required to be a Tutor within the House system, which we operate at Herschel. This involves active engagement with a small group of students across the grades, having oversight of their well-being and their academic progress.
    • A willingness to work within the values and ethos of the School and a commitment to involve oneself in the broader extramural programme on offer at the School.
