Applied Science Lecturer at Eduvos

Minimum qualification and experience:

• Completed PhD in the relevant fields of Biotechnology and/or Biochemistry
• Undergraduate specialisation in the relevant fields as highlighted above
• Two years teaching and/or research experience in programmes relevant to the Faculty of Applied Science’s offerings.
• Evidence of coordination responsibilities
• Experience and expertise in curriculum development
• Able to demonstrate innovation in teaching, experience in blended learning delivery and the use of technology for improving learner throughput

Scope of modules:

• Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology
• Agricultural Biotechnology
• Protein Biochemistry and Proteomics
• Medical Bioethics

Responsibilities:

• Curriculum development of and lecturing of the above-mentioned modules
• Developing, presenting and co-ordinating undergraduate courses as well as practicals
• Using a learning management system to develop and present courses
• Presenting lectures and programmes in a face to face and E-learning environment
• Providing a significant contribution to faculty outputs and teaching
• Initiate and develop curriculum and course materials
• Contribute towards the Department’s transformational and strategic goals
• The preparation and delivery of lectures
• Conduct tutorials, demonstrations, workshops for students
• Participate in academic administration such as attendance at departmental, school and / or faculty meetings, faculty administration, class administration, record keeping etc
• Consultation and teaching of students at undergraduate level (i.e. NQF 7)

Competencies

• Knowledge of and experience of facilitation
• Knowledge of the different knowledge fields in Science
• Knowledge of teaching methodologies in the different knowledge fields

Appropriate language and communication skills

• Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision
• Ability to work as an individual and in a team
