    Assistant Director: Occupational Health and Safety

    MINIMUM - COMPETENCIES

    • Strong supervisory skills. Good planning and organisational skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Problem-solving and analytical thinking. Interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to interpret legislation. Computer literacy (MS Office). Good communication, report writing, and facilitation skills and a valid drivers’ license. 

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A three-year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety/ Safety Management. A valid driver’s license. Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in an Occupational Health and Safety environment, with at least 3 years at a supervisory level. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and relevant regulations.
    • Knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, and compliance monitoring. Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g. SACPCMP) will be an added advantage.

    DUTIES

    • Manage and coordinate the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programmes within the Department. Ensure compliance with the OHS Act and related legislation.
    • Develop, review, and implement OHS policies, procedures, and guidelines. Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and audits. Facilitate incident investigations and compile reports with recommendations.
    • Coordinate OHS training and awareness programmes. Monitor and support OHS Committees and Representatives. Compile and submit OHS reports to management. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on OHS matters.
