Associate Mechanical Engineer - Wet Service at AECOM

Job Summary

Good knowledge of:

• Hydraulics in pipes (Pressurised and under gravity) and open channels
• Piping materials
• How buildings are constructed (Interfacing with other disciplines, building sequences, project management)
• Cost of wet service installations
• Quality assurance (factory and site)
• Quality assurance (in the office and on site)
• Quality control according to ISO 9001 standards
• Safety and environment
• Drawing and design packages (AutoCAD, Revit, Excel, Word)
• Good report writing and communication skills.

Storm Water design:

• Storm water (Including hydraulic and rainfall surface flow calculations)
• Design and specification of rainwater down pipes and gutters
• Design of stormwater networks with a knowledge of storage and attenuation
• Design of storm water pump stations
• Knowledge of sustainable drainage solutions (e.g., Rainwater harvesting)

Soil & Wastewater design:

• Soil and wastewater design and detailing to SANS 10400 Part P, SANS 10252 part 2 and local municipal guidelines
• Average and peak flow calculations for sanitary systems
• Ventilation of soil & wastewater systems
• Design of sewer pump station including pump specifications
• Knowledge of septic tank and conservancy tank system for the disposal of soil and wastewater
• Knowledge of grey water systems and requirements for the re-use of grey water

Hot Water:

• Hot water supply design, detailing and specification to SANS 10252 part 1
• Knowledge of energy reduction requirements to SANS 252 and SANS 10400 XA
• Good knowledge of the design and specification of hot water generating equipment (Geysers, heat, pumps, solar thermal)
• Good knowledge of insulation requirements to pipes and equipment
• Knowledge of circulating pumps

Regional Practice Line Lead:

• Build Capacity and Technical Excellence within the Wet Services Sub-Practice Area
• Co-ordinates local input to Technical Practice Group MEA activities
• Acts as focal point for regional Technical Practice Group activities, with a focus on consistency across the region

Minimum Requirements

• ±10 years’ experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• BEng / BTech
• Professionally registered with ECSA
