    Associate Phaco Development Specialist - Midrand

    As an ASSOCIATE PHACO DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST you will be required to support SURGEONS and HOSPITAL STAFF, you will be trusted to work on PHACO SKILL DEVELOPMENT within SOUTH AFRICA as well as other AFRICAN COUNTRIES while based in MIDRAND (Gauteng). In this role, a typical day will include:

    • Being responsible for the successful adoption of surgeon/hospital participants from manual small incision cataract surgery SICS/ECCE to Phacoemulsification as the first line of care for cataract surgery within the country
    • Being a support of existing cataract surgeons in the transition from ECCE and SICS to Phaco surgery; supporting training of non-cataract surgeons in Phaco procedure and techniques. Further optimize experienced Phaco surgeon’s techniques and surgery results as per the evolving technology and technique
    • Facilitating the adoption and proper use of Ophthalmology products and device application in cataract surgery procedure ranging from various phaco equipment in which team is competent, or use of incisional instrument and Ocular viscoelastic devices.
    • Supporting Participant’ Self-assessment for the skill level of the surgeon to ensure the potential candidate selections result in optimal quantity and quality of participants for the Phaco Development Program
    • Being an Onsite (Operating Room) and wet lab support and consultation of participants in the entire process of transitioning from ECCE and SICS to Phaco. This includes working with designated outside-Alcon consultants (course instructors and on-site proctors) to ensure effective participant Phaco adoption and high-quality surgical results  
    • Demonstrating ophthalmology product and procedural excellence to best teach, model and coach participants and affiliated personnel how to achieve optimal surgical and patient results while consulting in the OR, hospital and wet lab.
    • Supporting specified Alcon Phaco Development program courses, patient education programs, professional congresses, symposiums and special Alcon events
    • Supporting all documentation of; Participant Self-assessment, pre-course preparation, and surgical observation, post-course surgeon performance in cataract care (quantity and surgical results). Compliance with all Alcon administrative and reporting procedures. This includes monthly and expense reporting.
    • Being Responsible for adverse event and product complaint handling related activities at a local level including the collection, intake and forwarding the information to the Local Vigilance Representative) in case it deals with Alcon products
    • Checking adherence to all corporate compliance guidelines & corporate programs    

    WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

    • Minimum one year of Clinical Application, Marketing, Sales or related experience with an international or well recognized local medical device company.
    • Experience as a Surgical/Medical Technologist, Biomedical Engineer, Opthalmic Assistant or Optometrist is beneficial.  
    • English is mandatory (other language is a plus)
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Self – motivated, teamwork, ability to work under pressure, organization, focus and the willingness to take ownership of projects, orientation towards achieving results/ fulfilling objectives and having the drive to succeed in all areas, proactive
    • For this role, travels are mandatory (across South Africa and African Countries)
