    Biodiversity Area Coordinator

    Requirements

    • National Diploma in Nature conservation or Environmental / Natural Sciences
    • BTech or degree in Environmental / Natural Sciences or relevant field is advantageous
    • 8 years’ conservation experience of which 4 years’ must be in reserve management
    • Demonstrated knowledge of policy and biodiversity legislation, especially in relation to the Protected Areas Act (NEMPAA)
    • Experience of critical ecological drivers and processes (especially
    • with regard to fire and invasive species) within an Urban environment
    • Proven experience in staff management and HR processes
    • Experience in human/wildlife conflicts
    • Management experience in the Fynbos Biome is advantageous
    • Sound Project Management experience
    • Computer Literacy – MS Office Applications (Word and Excel)
    • A Code B Driver’s Licence is essential
    • Must be Physically Fit

    Key Performance Areas

    • Manage the provision and maintenance of biodiversity in his\her area of responsibility as determined by senior management.
    • Manage the ongoing monitoring of biodiversity in his\her reserves and immediate surrounds, and the effective recording of this data.
    • Draw up and implement approved management plans, and utilize annual plans of operations (APOs) with regard to the reserves under his\her control.
    • Ensure that the maintenance, rehabilitation and restoration of natural biodiversity is carried out efficiently within the reserves
    • Manage core reserve programmes such as those relating to
    • Stakeholder Engagement, Environmental Education, Invasive
    • Species Management, Fire Management, Stewardship sites,

    Rehabilitation and Tourism.

    • Ensure that biodiversity law enforcement and compliance is carried out effectively within the reserves under his\her authority
    • Carry out human resource management of staff with regard to aspects such as training, Health and Safety and discipline
