Position summary and job purpose:
Tetra Tech is seeking a business development (BD) and proposals specialist to support the growth of the South Africa-based energy practice. The BD Specialist will respond to request for Expressions of Interest (RFIs), Request for Proposals (RFPs), and engage with potential clients. In consultation with the bid manager and, as necessary, the home office BD team, the BD Specialist will develop corporate qualification packages and manage the bid process. Position and title will be commensurate with years of experience and ability. Multiple positions may be filled at different seniority levels.
Position Responsibilities:
Prepare and standardize staff CVs, and keep them up-to-date
Prepare and keep up-to-date corporate qualifications, project data sheets, and project experience documents
Monitor consulting opportunities (RFI/RFP) from international financial institutions (IFI) and bilateral aid agencies
Monitor consulting opportunities from utilities, governments, and developers
Assist with the set-up of projects on the relevant “BD portal”
Maintain and update business opportunity tracker
Prepare EOI and proposal templates to be populated by engineering staff
Lead or assist, as appropriate, based on geography, size and nature of RFP, in preparing proposals
Monitor procurement/tender websites (such as DgMarket, DEVEX, UNDB, DevelopmentAid, etc.)
Interface and coordinate with other staff in field office or home office, as necessary
Interface with clients, suppliers and contractors
Develop marketing materials
Work independently on complex tasks
Mentor junior staff, as appropriate
Other tasks as assigned
Essential KSA’s required (experience, skills, education, certification, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree in arts, languages or business
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in business development, including supporting proposal activities and contributing to proposal writing.
Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new workstreams
Ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Will confidently build and maintain external and internal business relationships
Ability to produce clear and logical written communication
A systematic problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and accurate work products
Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and client needs
Interface with clients, suppliers and contractors, as well as conduct BD-related training
Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong organizational and teamwork skills
Must be able to manage several tasks simultaneously, and prioritize as necessary
Self-starter, who can work effectively under tight deadlines
Valued but not required KSA’s:
Prior experience with donor projects, their procurement procedures and requirements
Prior experience with business development and proposal preparation on IFI and utilities markets
Knowledge of French, Portuguese or Arabic is a plus
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Office setting, able to travel as needed, up to 25% of the time
Work location is in Johannesburg, however, there may be flexibility for the candidate to have a hybrid schedule
