    Chief Executive: Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Management: SPF: Head Office

    What will you do?
    The Chief Executive will lead the cross functional activity of the legal and compliance expertise in SPF as it relates compliance and legal matter and regulatory reporting with an emphasis on both managerment and specialist expertise in the required fields.
    As a member of the EXCO team, the incumbent will contribute to the overall cluster strategic direction by identifying and integrating information and key issues relevant to the long term strategic planning (in both a general sense and more specifically on aspects under their functional leadership).

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic development

    • Maintenance of expert knowledge on relevant legislative, regulatory and industry standards/requirements (e.g. King IV & Asisa requirements) and amendments, and the provision of timeous advice and solutions to relevant stakeholders.
    • Monitoring changes in laws, regulations, initiatives and relevant industry practices, so as to draft and initiate appropriate interventions.
    • Ensures governance and reporting (Legal, Governance and Compliance); designing frameworks that reflects best practices, meets regulatory requirements and supports SPF's approved governance structure and business objectives.
    • Ensures sufficient oversight and interpretation of regulations and ensures that the strategic impact of the areas are understood and managed effectively by the SPF businesses.
    • Oversees the development of policies, control procedures and processes designed to ensure governance identification, i.e. aggregation, mitigation and monitoring capabilities to reflect an operative governance profile.
    • Leads problem-solving efforts selectively on matters with high business impact.

    Leadership development

    • Providing leadership to the regulatory, legal and compliance teams in the business.
    • Co-ordinates with the actuarial functions that provides analysis as input to the functions.
    • Co-ordinates the various regulatory work streams and commissions project teams for implementation of regulations where needed.
    • Ensures that the Board of Directors, management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulators of Regulators that Company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organisation meets the Company's Code of Conduct.

    Stakeholder engagement

    • Selective deployment as SPF Exco representative to various internal and external governance structures as required.
    • Chief point of liaison for SPF with various regulators in South Africa including FSCA, POPI Regulator, FIC, in co-ordination with the Group Office.
    • Development of materials and documentation including minimum standards, templates, guidelines, FAQ's and processes and driving the appropriate application.
    • Primary engagement with the Prudential Authority with regards to Regulatory Return Reporting, in order to understand and define their requirements and to provide strategic insights and appropriate supplementary data.
    • Engagement and liaison with relevant external stakeholders such, e.g. ASISA.
    • Frequent interaction with stakeholders in order to implement service level agreements and data flows that support the requirements mentioned above in a sustainable way.
    • People management
      • Strong team leadership and people management; ability to mentor and develop a team. Foster a culture supportive of the achievement of business objectives grounded in Sanlam's core values.

    Qualifications

    Role Requirements

    • Registered Attorney, Actuary, CA

    Experience & Knowledge

    • 8 to 10 years' experience in Financial Services of which 5 years must be at a senior level
    • Regulatory Reporting and/or Governance experience is a must
    • Experience in managing teams
    • Experience in financial analysis
    • Cross function regulatory return and reporting experience
    • Experience in financial modelling
    • Experience in managing processes with several stakeholders
    • Prior experience at Board of Senior Management level and of servicing the needs of Board Committees or Senior Management
