Chief Executive Officer at National Library of South Africa (NLSA)

​Requirements: 

• The Applicant must be a South African citizen, preferably in possession of a Masters in Library and Information Science degree with an MBA being a distinct advantage 
• A qualification in Strategic Change Management and a proven track record in turnaround strategies will be advantageous 
• At least 10 years’ experience in an executive position 
• Previous experience as a Chief Executive Officer will be an added advantage 
• In-depth knowledge of and experience in the Public Sector environment 
• Experience in working with all spheres of government as well as community-based organisations will be advantageous 

Key Performance Areas: The CEO will be responsible for the following, amongst others: 

• Provide strategic and executive leadership 
• To enable the Board to execute its mandate in accordance with corporate governance principles 
• Ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic plans to achieve the strategic objectives of the Board 
• Establish clear authority levels within NLSA 
• Ensure the development and implementation of sound people management practices 
• Setting and monitoring of NLSA key performance indicators 
• Setting and monitoring the implementation of NLSA organisation performance standards 
• Establish and strengthen collaboration and relevant strategic partnerships
• Facilitate projects that promote participation of the broader community and other relevant stakeholders both nationally and internationally 
• Ensure effective communication with and reporting to the Board, its sub-committees and the relevant parliamentary portfolio committee on the activities, achievements and challenges of NLSA 
• Serve as Chief Accounting Officer preparing and negotiating budgets and ensuring good financial governance and management of the budget.
