Our client, a leading specialist in short-term insurance underwriting management, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Underwriter to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial underwriting, a proven track record in assessing exposure, and extensive knowledge of commercial insurance products. This role demands a professional with strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial underwriting.
Proven track record in underwriting and assessing exposure.
Extensive knowledge of commercial insurance products.
NQF Level 4: Short Term Commercial Lines with a minimum of 60 credits.
Completed RE5 exam level 1.
Possesses extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including experience with Pivot Tables.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Own vehicle and valid Driver's License required.
Roles and Responsibilities
Underwrite new commercial risks in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
Ensure that risks are written within the company’s risk appetite.
Adhere to reinsurance treaties and internal mandates.
Monitor and take corrective action on poorly performing risks.
Maintain an acceptable loss ratio within a Broker portfolio.
Maintain policy wording drafts and ensure that products remain competitive with market offerings.
Handle day-to-day queries and amendments to existing policies.
Provide Brokers with advice on current product offerings.
Conduct product training for Brokers.
Provide input into building and designing various aspects of products on a designed system.
Provide comparisons between competitors’ products and the company’s commercial products.
Assess and evaluate risk for commercial insurance policies.
Analyse exposure, determine appropriate premiums, and provide underwriting recommendations.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with Brokers, Agents, and clients.
Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and company policies.
Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and market conditions.
Provide training and mentorship to junior Underwriters and team members.
Manage and review renewal business to ensure profitability and retention.
Collaborate with the claims department to monitor loss experience and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
