    Consulting Actuary - Retirement

    Job Description

    The Actuarial And Retirement Consulting Division Of Willis Towers Watson, A Leading Global Professional Services Company, Requires The Services Of A Pensions Actuary (Valuator) With General Benefits Consultancy Experience To Join Its Cape Town Actuarial Team.

    The Role

    As A Consulting Actuary In The Retirement Team, You Will Apply Your Consulting, Technical And Project Management Skills In The Areas Of Retirement Plan Valuations, Benefit Design, Compliance, And Risk And Financial Management For All Types Of Retirement Plans Including Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution And Hybrid Schemes.

    In This Role At WTW You Will:

    • Take Ownership Of A Portfolio Of Retirement Fund And Corporate Clients, To Provide Actuarial And General Benefit Consulting Services To These Clients.
    • Hold Valuator Status (Where Appointed To This Role By The Client). 
    • Act As Lead Actuary (Signing Actuary) In Respect Of IAS19 Work For Corporate Clients (In South Africa And In Neighbouring States). 
    • Provide Actuarial And Benefits Advice To Corporate Sponsors Of Retirement Funds And Other Benefit Arrangements – Some Of These Are In Neighbouring States. 
    • Play A Significant Role In Shaping Willis Towers Watson’s Strategic Benefit Consulting Offering, Including The Areas Of Emerging Retirement Fund Legislation, Annuity Strategies, Risk Management And Member Communication.

    The Actuaries And Consultants In The Cape Town Office Are Supported By A Small Team Of Technical Staff, Primarily Actuarial Students. As The Supporting Team Is Small, The Candidate Should Expect To Be “Hands On” In The Actuarial And Benefit Consulting Role.

    The Requirements

    • Fellow Of The Actuarial Society Of SA, With Valuator Status Recognized By The FSCA, For Both Defined Benefit And Defined Contribution Funds. 
    • FAIS Representative (Covering All Relevant CAT-I Retirement Product Sub-Categories) 
    • Experience At A Senior Level Of Pensions Actuarial Work.
    • Experience At A Senior Level Of IAS19 Actuarial Work. 
    • General Experience Of Benefits Consulting Work, Including Strategic And Governance Advice To Retirement Fund Trustee Boards. Review / Re-Broking Of Insured Benefits Will Be Part Of The Role, As Will The Analysis And Due Diligence Of Umbrella Retirement Fund Offerings, Third Party Administrators And Possibly Other Retirement Fund Service Providers. 
    • Some Experience Of Similar Work In Other African Countries, Though This Is Not A Pre-Requisite.
