    Continuous Improvement Lead: Forestry & Milling

    Job Description

    • Continuous Improvement Lead: Forestry & Milling 
    • Weatherboard & Braecroft
    • Based at Creighton
    • Awesome Opportunity for a someone who thrives on Continuous improvement and has a passion for Forestry and Milling
    • Position Purpose: To lead the continuous improvement (CI) program within Forestry & Milling in order to drive process improvements and operational excellence

    Responsibilities

    • Implement Operational Excellence (OpEx) across the Forestry & Milling (F&M) value chain to improve efficiencies and product yields thereby lowering production costs while improving product quality to deliver higher value products to CHEP
    • Drive implementation of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques (Kaizen, Daily management system (DMS), Root cause problem solving (RCPS), Standard work, Process confirmations, etc.) across the Forestry & Milling (F&M) value chain
    • Train and coach Operations teams to use basic lean tools to eliminate waste
    • Champion the implementation of 5S across F&M
    • Design layout of facilities and determine optimal resourcing requirements
    • Coordinate process capability, work study and six sigma analysis
    • Conduct cost and value driver analysis to identify efficiency improvement opportunities
    • Assist in the collection of data identifying opportunities and for tracking improvements
    • Partner with the Finance and Transformation teams to calculate cost reductions & document savings into the Wave tracking system
    • Accountable for tracking all F&M CI Projects and reporting progress to Operations team
    • Proactively identify and promote sharing of learnings and best practices across F&M
    • Regular auditing to make sure that all departments adhere to the Brambles Global OpEx program
    • Support the Maintenance Manager with improving the Reliability Engineering and Physical Asset Management program
    • Support business case development for new equipment / equipment upgrades aimed at improving efficiencies and/or lowering costs and/or reducing operational risks
    • Develop, measure and report on new Plant and Equipment investment performance
    • Review payment calculation sheets for silvicultural activities to ensure alignment with productivity standards and benchmark costs
    • Support implementation of Sawmill Performance Incentive Program: Visual aids 
    • Develop/enhance reports to measure operational performance and improve decision making
    • Other direction as assigned by Supply Chain Senior Management team

    •  Work will require occasional extended hours for special projects or urgent requests
    •  Residing in close proximity to the  F&M sites

    Qualifications

    • Minimum: Bachelor’s Industrial Engineering or Bachelor’s Business Management
    • Advantageous: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt experience

    Experience

    • Previous experience as Continuous Improvement Lead working with cross functional team     to deliver change
    • Over 5 plus years of direct management experience in a supply chain discipline e.g., logistics, operations, planning, manufacturing
    • Experience of using 5S/Lean/Six Sigma processes to deliver solutions.
    • Implementation of projects in a manufacturing environment
    • Delivering training across the workforce
    • Working with remote teams
    • Well-developed quantitative and qualitative analytical and critical thinking skills
    • Database and Data Analysis capabilities desirable

    Skills and knowledge

    • Continuous Improvement Methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints)
    • Knowledge of Forestry and Milling operations (desired)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations and cross-functional collaboration for all levels in the organization (Director to Plant level)
    • Demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvements
    • Proven project management skills with demonstrated ability to drive projects that require cross-functional resources
    • Must be highly organized with excellent time management and prioritization skills
    • Experience in completing analyses utilizing Six Sigma, Statistical, and Lean tools and techniques
    • Use of data to make informed decisions and changes
    • Self-starter able to work independently with minimum supervision
    • Ability to quickly develop and execute a plan amongst ever changing priorities
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Word, Visio, Minitab
    • Good financial acumen
