Grade 12 plus an appropriate National Engineering Diploma (NQF Level 6) qualification or equivalent appropriate tertiary qualification as recognised by SAQA. Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa. Minimum of 6 years appropriate experience. A Valid driver's license (with the exception of people with disabilities).
Knowledge, Competencies and Skills: Knowledge in surveying and design of all engineering type of projects (contours, waterways, stock watering systems, irrigation systems, subsurface draining systems, water run off control, conservation farm planning and the design of farm animal housing). Knowledge of spreadsheets, computerized and/or farm planning. Good Labour relations. Good interpersonal skills. Capacity building within communities. Determine the potential of soils for irrigation.
DUTIES :
Manage and control the planning and design of conservation structures in compliance with environmental and conservation legislation. Co-ordination of projects (including inter alia projects funded by Land Care and CASP). Manage and control the prescribed administration of financial aid schemes (e.g. the soil conservation subsidy scheme) with regard to the conservation of natural resources and the implementation of norms and standards as prescribed by the National Department of Agriculture. Manage and control extension services on land care. Keep up to date with regard to the applicable prescripts, policies, procedures, technologies and new developments to be able to render an efficient and effective technical service. Perform administrative and related functions.
