    Cooperage Controller

    Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position within SA Distilleries, based at Van Ryn in Stellenbosch. The successful incumbent will report to the Cooperage Manager

    Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensure that production targets are met
    • Assess incoming barrels for repair requirements
    • Limit maturation losses through efficient management and control of barrel repairs including pressure and leakage tests
    • Ensure compliance to all Health and Safety requirements
    • Ensure good housekeeping principles are implemented and adhered to
    • Maintain accurate record keeping of all barrel movements on SAP
    • Effective stock management of barrels and alternative wood products
    • Maintain the required complement of skilled Coopers by overseeing the Learner Cooper training programme including assessment of competence
    • Ensure that Empowering Excellence (E²) initiatives and processes are integated to improve efficiency and facilitate standardisation
    • Effective management of the Cooperage vehicles
    • Ad hoc duties as required

    The successful candidate must have the following qualifications/experience/skills/attributes:

    • Matric or equivalent
    • A relevant tertiary level qualification will be highly advantageous
    • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a Supervisory capacity in a similar environment
    • PC literacy (MS Office, SAP)
    • A good working knowledge of Distillery operations and requirements
    • Demonstrable knowledge of Alternative Wood Products will be highly advantageous
    • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
    • Sound leadership skills (People Management and Development)
    • Team player with strong relationship building ability
    • A self-starter with the ability to work effectively under pressure
    • Willingness to do local travel to SA Distillery sites
    • Punctuality and attendance reliability
