    Coordinator II (P8) (3-Year Fixed Term Contract) (Faculty of Science: DSTI-NRF CIMERA - Department of Geology)

     Job Description:

    • The Centre of Excellence is seeking a Coordinator II to join our small management team at UJ, and working with the team at Wits and all other collaborators. The CoE Coordinator II will manage the day-to-day operations of the CoE and to support the Director and Co-Director in the execution of their duties in running a CoE. The CoE Coordinator II is responsible for overseeing the annual budget, liaising with the NRF and working with the NRF CoE team in the efficient running of the CoE, undertaking contracts (through UJ corporate governance), compiling the annual progress reports and business plan (in collaboration with the Director), developing strategy documents and working with the Directors towards long-term sustainability of the CoE, representing the CoE at conferences and other events, sourcing of suitable resources to execute our events / courses / workshops, working with all local and international collaborators, expanding our footprint and network, and establishing the impact of the research conducted.
    • The person will report to the CoE Director at UJ.

    Responsibilities:

    • Pre and post grant management.
    • Compilation of the Annual Progress Report and Business Plan.
    • Assist in driving the CoE strategy and compilation of relevant strategy documents.
    • Income and expenditure oversight and compilation of quarterly reports.
    • Contracting.
    • Grant proposal compilation and sourcing thereof.
    • Liaison with NRF and all South African and international collaborators.
    • Oversight of social media, communications and marketing.
    • Database management, and compilation of the Alumni database, as well as updating publication and student databases.
    • Initiate outreach projects and track other outreach activities.
    • Compile statistical analysis of progress and impact of the CoE.

    Minimum requirements

    • Must have a BSc in Geosciences / Mining or related discipline
    • Must have at least 3 years' research management experience.
    • Must have experience in grant proposal writing.
    • Proficiency in financial management.
    • Proficiency in project management.
    • Proficiency in the use of AI to undertake tasks.
    • Proficiency in preparation of professional reports.
    • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Excellent communication and management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills: must be approachable and available to students, academics, and external collaborators.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Must be able to think on the go and problem solve pro-actively.
    • Must have an understanding of social media and marketing.
    • Fully computer literate (MS Exel, Word, Power Point), and have an excellent grasp on written and verbal English.
    • Budgeting and financial oversight of main and supplementary funds
    • Competency in use of AI to execute tasks.
    • Knowledge of geology and related industries vital.

    Recommendations:

    • BSc Hons or higher
    • Willingness to travel, if required.
    • Overtime work will be required during an event
