    Investigator (P8) (Protection Services Division: Compliance Risks and Enforcement (CRE) Department) (Re-advert)

    Job Description:

    • To investigate incidents of crime and misconduct (criminal and financial crime) as assigned by the Manager Investigations and compile necessary reports. Conduct compliance inspections and identify risk areas to Protection Services/University. To keep and analyse statistics of all incidents reported to Protection Services. To plan, develop, organize, advise, implement, and participate in various crime prevention and – awareness strategies and campaigns directed to the campus community.

    Responsibilities: 

    Compliance Risk and Enforcement (Investigation):

    • Conduct and complete investigations in line with legally acceptable investigating techniques, various relevant legislation, Acts and practices etc.)
    • Timeously respond to priority crimes when required. 
    • Manage crime scenes according to training & SOPs until hand-over to SAPS when required.
    • Register anonymously reported incidents to Compliance Risk and Enforcement (CRE).
    • Be able to document and give an accurate incident report.
    • Draft precise preliminary/final investigation reports with high reporting standards.
    • Keep accurate crime statistics, analyse the same, and recommend crime prevention strategies.
    • Gather, preserve and share evidence pertinent to an investigation in line with the relevant regulations and policies.
    • Keep up to date with the latest investigation technology and techniques.
    • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and UJ policies.
    • Participate in consolidation of and provide inputs into management (including Executive) reports as required.

    Crime Prevention:

    • Actively participate in the Community Police Forum (CPF) and other crime prevention forums.
    • Implement and participate in crime prevention and awareness campaigns.
    • Make recommendations to mitigate risks based on an investigation conducted.
    • Analyse incident statistics to determine trends and recommend security measures to prevent further occurrences.
    • Liaise with SAPS to obtain feedback on cases reported.
    • Interfaces with UJ Departments regarding crime prevention programs and other UJ crime-related issues.
    • Serve as an information resource of crime threats to the campus community.
    • Make input on policies when required.
    • Preparing and delivering online/oral presentations to student/staff groups when required.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Law or Commerce, or Forensics (in the Accounting or Financial fields) Forensic Investigation/Forensic Science etc.) or any related qualification (NQF 7).
    • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ proven investigation experience in financial and criminal investigation.
    • Proven detailed investigation report writing experience required.
    • Have a valid driver's license.
    • Excellent report writing skills.
    • PSIRA Grade A registration or be eligible for registration.
    • Proven computer skills (MS Office, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel), preferably at advanced levels.

    Director: Contract Management (P5) (Office of the General Counsel: Legal Office)

    •  The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) supports UJ, its governance and management teams, office-bearers, and employees (“the Clients”) by ensuring UJ’s business is conducted efficiently and in line with legal and policy requirements. The Legal Advisors at the OGC are specialists in these areas. The OGC provides its Clients with practical, timely, and efficient solutions for challenges involving legal issues. Furthermore, the OGC offers guidance on proactive strategies to minimise legal challenges and potential risks.

    Responsibilities: 

    Core Function/Duties:

    The position is at its core a commercial contract drafting function with inter alia the following duties, obligations and requirements:

    • Independently consider, attend to the vetting of, provide comments and/or draft a wide variety of contracts across a wide range of disciplines within UJ ranging from commercial contracts (including but not limited to various construction contracts) to academic related contracts (including but not limited to intellectual property contracts) to mitigate legal risks for UJ.
    • Draft bespoke, complex and template contracts from the ground up and, as such, must demonstrate exceptional drafting skills by producing high-quality contracts while consistently maintaining a high level of productivity.
    • Provide legal advice in respect of contracts, commercial and corporate law matters.
    • Engage with external stakeholders and clients regarding the contract development process, UJ policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
    • Draft contract risk analysis, negotiation sheets and risk summaries.
    • Rapidly determine key issues and any conflicts or disputes and to deliver solutions to a wide range of challenging situations.
    • Develop and draft a wide variety of UJ policies, drafting submissions for approval of policies and once adopted, managing the policies by means of implementation, creating training materials and provide training.
    • Perusing tender documents and formulating tender conditions.
    • Formulating and closing out contractual claims.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual commitments and provide clear communication and exceptional delivery.
    • Explain complex information related to contract review process to others in straightforward situations.
    • Identify and implement appropriate contractual risk and other risk management structures and procedures.
    • Perform all functions in relation to contracts and legal advice on a software platform customised for the OGC.
    • Draft, maintain and report on a weekly and monthly basis in respect of contract and commercial matters including data analysis within the OGC and to clients.
    • Compile training materials and provide training in the contract development process, contract templates, UJ policies and procedures.
    • Attend internal committee meetings, when required.
    • Manage, mentor and provide guidance to junior employees.
    • Attend to ad hoc strategic projects as required by the General Counsel.

    Ancillary Functions/Duties:

    • The provision of ongoing legal advice to UJ in respect of all areas impacting UJ; including advice regarding any new legislation that could have an impact on UJ and its operations. 
    • All relevant assistance in relation to general compliance and corporate governance.
    • Assist, where required, with dispute resolution and litigation.
    • Apart from UJ’s faculties, departments, divisions, schools and/or UJ entities, the domains that rely heavily on the assistance of the OGC for legal services include the office of the Registrar, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. The OGC does not normally deal with Human Capital Management matters but occasionally provides support to the colleagues in this division.
    • Creating awareness and conducting training, where required, of the legal provisions that regulate particular portfolios and providing advice in respect thereof (for example the Intellectual Property Rights from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act 51 of 2008 (IPR Act); Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA); Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA) 3 of 2000 and the Higher Education Act, 101 of 1997).

    Minimum requirements

    • An Admitted Attorney or Advocate.
    • An LLB degree with more than twelve (12) years’ post admission experience in a Legal Practice (or equivalent corporate or higher education experience) (as Attorney or Advocate) at an appropriate level or a Master’s qualification or studying towards a Master’s degree in Law of Contract with more than eight (8) years’ post-admission experience in Legal Practice (or equivalent corporate or higher education experience) (as Attorney or Advocate) at an appropriate level.  
    • Extensive experience and proficiency in Contract and Commercial Law.
    • Extensive experience in the Law of Contract.
    • Extensive negotiation experience to achieve contracts with appropriately mitigated legal risk through to completion.

     Recommendations:

    Job Description:

    • It is an overarching function to manage and co-ordinate certain functions of the Health Clinics within the Faculty of Health Sciences, to allow the learners maximum clinical exposure.

The incumbent will ensure alignment with the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) brand positioning, recruitment objectives, and institutional marketing strategy, while enhancing the visibility, reputation, and stakeholder networks of the Department of Finance and Investment Management (DFIM).

    Responsibilities:
     The responsibilities and duties of the successful incumbent include the following:
    Strategic Marketing and Positioning

    • Develop and implement an integrated departmental marketing and communication strategy.
    • Lead and coordinate promotional campaigns to support student recruitment, programme growth and stakeholder engagement.
    • Conduct market intelligence and competitor analysis to inform positioning and strategic decision-making.
    • Develop and manage the annual marketing plan and calendar.

    Digital Strategy and Brand Management

    • Provide strategic oversight of the Department’s digital platforms, including website and social media
    • Oversee content development, digital engagement, and targeted outreach initiatives.
    • Manage and expand departmental and stakeholder databases.
    • Monitor and evaluate campaign effectiveness.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Communications

    • Lead internal and external stakeholder communications.
    • Build and sustain strategic relationships with industry partners, alumni, advisory boards, and institutional stakeholders.
    • Represent the Department in School and College marketing structures and relevant institutional forums.
    • Coordinate high-level communication outputs, including newsletters, promotional materials, and strategic announcements.

    Events Management

    • Oversee departmental events, including academic conferences, industry engagements, open days, graduations, postgraduate inductions, advisory board meetings, and community engagement initiatives.
    • Oversee event planning, logistics, hospitality, and stakeholder liaison to ensure professional delivery and brand-aligned execution.

    Administration

    • Ensure compliance with UJ branding, communication, and procurement policies.
    • Oversee the development and procurement of branded collateral and promotional materials.
    • Maintain accurate records of marketing assets and related documentation.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Degree (NQF 7) in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, or a related field.
    • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant operational-level experience in marketing and communications.
    • Demonstrated experience in event planning and coordination.
    • Proven experience in digital marketing management and content development.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
    • Editing and design skills using Canva or similar platforms.
    • Basic photography and visual content development skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

    Departmental Secretary: Administrator to the Director (P11) (Academic Development and Support: Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development) (Re-advert)

    Job Purpose:

    • To provide specialised, confidential, and HPCSA governance-aligned mental health administrative coordination within PsyCaD to support psychological service delivery, crisis response processes, clinical record management, staff onboarding and student wellbeing initiatives within the Director’s office.

    Responsibilities:

    Client and Student Service Administration & Support:

    • Provide confidential mental health administrative support within a psychological services environment, ensuring compliance with the HPCSA and UJ governance requirements.
    • Coordinate staff and student appointments, referrals, and service access pathways that are received from the Director’s office.
    • Maintain secure management of PsyCaD psychological data, and records per HPCSA guidelines.
    • Support documentation processes including reports, referral letters, and service-related correspondence from the Director’s office.
    • Manage psychological telephonic and walk-in enquiries with professionalism and sensitivity, ensuring appropriate triaging to PsyCaD staff.

    Psychological Crisis Administration:

    • Liaise with faculties, divisions, and external stakeholders to support integrated PsyCaD services.
    • Support quality assurance processes, surveys, and reporting requirements.
    • Provision of high quality and confidential administrative and secretariat support to all PsyCaD management.
    • Assist with requests to the Director: PsyCaD, collect and collate information from internal and external stakeholders.
    • Organise travel and monitor travel arrangements to enable effective use of time and travel budget.

    Finance and Psychosocial Project Administration:

    • Provide administrative support and marketing administration for all PsyCaD projects.
    • Create and curate content for social media platforms including PsyCaD microsite in consultation with the Director: PsyCaD.
    • Assigned PsyCaD process Coordinator.
    • Ensure the provision of accurate and complete supporting documentation for financial transactions.
    • Ensure effective communication with PsyCaD staff regarding internal controls, financial liability, and the management of financial risks in consultation with the Director.

    Professional Administration and Community Engagement (CE):

    • Professional reports and documentation as required within PsyCaD and ADS.
    • Participate in collaborative projects with internal/external stakeholders when required.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Diploma (NQF 6) in Business, Administration or Management Studies or a related field.
    • Three (3) years’ mental health administrative experience within a student counselling in a higher education environment.
    • Proven experience in providing administrative support to a Senior Manager within a higher education environment.
    • Proven experience in supporting psychological crisis coordination and student wellbeing initiatives.
    • Proven experience in institutional financial administration and related systems.
    • Proven experience in facilitating the onboarding of sessional staff.

    Coordinator II (P8) (3-Year Fixed Term Contract) (Faculty of Science: DSTI-NRF CIMERA - Department of Geology)

     Job Description:

    • The Centre of Excellence is seeking a Coordinator II to join our small management team at UJ, and working with the team at Wits and all other collaborators. The CoE Coordinator II will manage the day-to-day operations of the CoE and to support the Director and Co-Director in the execution of their duties in running a CoE. The CoE Coordinator II is responsible for overseeing the annual budget, liaising with the NRF and working with the NRF CoE team in the efficient running of the CoE, undertaking contracts (through UJ corporate governance), compiling the annual progress reports and business plan (in collaboration with the Director), developing strategy documents and working with the Directors towards long-term sustainability of the CoE, representing the CoE at conferences and other events, sourcing of suitable resources to execute our events / courses / workshops, working with all local and international collaborators, expanding our footprint and network, and establishing the impact of the research conducted.
    • The person will report to the CoE Director at UJ.

    Responsibilities:

    • Pre and post grant management.

    • Assist in driving the CoE strategy and compilation of relevant strategy documents.
