Data Analyst at Santam Insurance

The successful incumbent will be accountable for developing and automating reporting, providing high quality analytics / predictive solutions which complement our business needs.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Lead Big Data Analytics initiatives in Santam Finance.
• Research, develop and implement appropriate statistical (mathematical) learning models for data analysis when needed.
• Engage with stakeholders to understand their business challenges and advise on practical analytics solutions.
• Collaborate with key external and internal stakeholders within the data value chain to ensure that the appropriated data sources and data structures are in place for building analytics solutions.
• Communicate results and ideas to key decision makers.
• Create team presentations/visualisations.
• Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends.
• Experiment with and select best combination of data science analytics tools to address business requirements.
• Proactively uncover use cases and build algorithms which can assist the business in monetising existing data sources.
• Provide mentorship to existing financial analysts on data mining and data science methodologies.

Qualifications And Experience

• B. Degree Computer Science (Statistics / Applied Statistics / Applied Mathematics) (Postgraduate preferable).
• 1 -3 years’ practical experience in an analytical /engineering /tech environment.
• Experience with common data science toolkits

• Financial acumen and budgeting skills;
• Strong programming
• Passion for data science and unlocking value in large datasets, especially dealing with complex problems;

• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint;
