Reporting to the Group Manager of Engineering the Design Manager will be a key stakeholder in leading and managing multi discipline engineering and design activities, for projects and studies, in consultation with all project stakeholders to ensure that standards of technical compliance, quality, cost, safety, sustainability and environmental performance are observed and that time schedules are met.
The tasks you'll perform
Interdisciplinary co-ordination of technical aspects of the project engineering, design and drafting.
Monitoring the progress and performance of the project design team, giving input and providing feedback and support where necessary
Progress reporting to the project management team
Coordinating the multi-discipline engineering and design & draughting resources assigned to allocated tasks, to achieve agreed deliverable with the scheduled dates and allocated man-hour budgets.
Consistently providing engineering designs and solutions within agreed milestone dates and to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
Approve, guide and review engineering designs, including calculations & design development.
Ensure associated engineering and design procedures are adhered to including, but not limited to, calculation checking, design reviews and change management.
Maximise the productivity and efficiency of the study and project teams by planning, scheduling, appropriate allocation of resources and ensuring collaborative teamwork to ensure deliverables are met.
Consistently incorporate safety in design and technical integrity within the engineering design process
Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
The expertise you'll bring
Tertiary level qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent)
15+ years’ experience in mineral processing or related industries. Experience in gold will be considered favourably.
Professional Registration (ECSA or equivalent).
South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
Cape Town based
High attention to detail, demonstrated high level of technical ability, and exceptional knowledge across a broad range of disciplines.
Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality service to Clients within budget and time constraints.
Extensive understanding of studies, projects and detailed design execution, mine operation challenges and requirements, and risk management process.
Excellent interpersonal and client interaction skills.
Willing to travel within and outside of South Africa on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.
Commitment to continuously seek improvement in engineering solutions and design with a focus on new technologies and innovation.
Intuitive leadership skills with the ability to initiate, lead and manage change in a complex environment.
Proven commitment to provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning to personnel within your team.
