DevOps Support Engineer at Absa

• Work as part of an integrated (run & build) tribe in lower complexity environments to provide enterprise wide application support across multiple stakeholder groups by maintaining & optimizing enterprise-grade applications (tech products & services).

Job Description

• Absa’s CIB technology team provides technology support to the organization’s Corporate and Investment Banking sector.  This IT Services team is specifically dedicated to our Markets business area and is responsible for the support, enhancement and maintenance of all Trade and Post Trade vendor and bespoke application suites that fall within the Markets business area.

As a DevOps Support Engineer you will get to do the following:

• Opportunity to work in Absa CIB Markets Tier 1 application Front Arena with one of the big infrastructure setups in the bank
• Opportunity to migrate the front arena application infrastructure from on-prem virtual platform to AWS 
• Maintain and Manage the Front Arena Application running a mixed environment (Linux and Windows) with 300+ servers
• Automation of server builds in Private and Public clouds using Ansible or Terraform or a similar automation tool
• Support CIB Markets Tier 1 application Front Arena and making sure the application is stable and available all the time 
• Point of contact for all trade desk related technology to support maintenance issues around all trading and post trading applications 
• Analyze problems quickly in a fast paced and deadline driven environment and determine the course of action to correct them.
• Ensure minimal impact to business during upgrade or maintenance activities
• Develop and maintain expertise in application functionality and related business processes and workflows
• Engage with stakeholders and provide support to application users

Essential skills required: 

• 6+ years IT / Application Support experience
• Strong Linux OS commands and shell script skills - especially sed and awk
• Knowledge and or experience on Python
• Experience on Ansible/Puppet/Terraform
• Working experience in Application Support in fast-paced environment 
• Experience working with users directly
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills 
• Ability to work independently, self-motivated, quick learner with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness to work standby or overtime as required

Advantageous skills:
Knowledge and working experience on some of the below:

• Containers and Orchestration Platform such as Kubernetes and OpenShift, OpenStack
• Software Development Platform integration GitHub, and related Cloud, DevOps and CI/CD matters.
• Working experience in a financial institute  
• Working experience in Front Arena (Development or Support)
• ITIL certification

Education
