    Finance Manager

    Main Insights Into the role

    The Financial Manager needs to be able to take ownership of leading the finance function to enable the CFO to focus purely on the strategic role. It requires strong leadership qualities to train, mentor and motivate the finance team to reach the objectives of the finance function.

    The FM will play a key role between the finance function and the operational and strategic function of the company. The Finance Manager will, therefore, give regular updates and feedback on the financial performance against the strategic direction. This requires candidates that are analytical and have the ability to think strategically.

    The specific financial management function is not regarded as highly technical, but due to the scale of operations, it requires a highly organised and professional individual to stay on top of the required operational functions.

     

    Overview of Roles & Responsibilities

    • Take ownership of the financial management for all group companies.
    • Take full ownership of the monthly board packs, detailed analysis and commentary for board review.
    • Ensure the compliance with all statutory, taxations and other regulations.
    • Manage the external audit process.
    • Take ownership of and assist in drafting budgets annually, maintain and report against them monthly
    • Take full ownership of the relationship with SARS for group companies while keeping up to date with SARS legislation.

     

    Education & Experience Requirements

    • Qualified CA (SA) (preferably)
    • Honours degree in Accounting with SAICA articles completed (Non-CA’s)
    • 2-5 years post articles experience, with 2 years in commerce (preferably)
    • Good report writing experience (Essential)
    • Property related experience (Advantageous)

     

    Main Personal attributes:

    • Must be willing to work VERY hard and be available outside of working hours and put in necessary additional hours to meet deadlines and catch up the backlog.
    • Sound commercial skills with the ability to quickly analyse and motivate a decision by way of a basic business model
    • Prepared to build and redesign the accounting department from the ground up as the company scales and grows
    • Want to establish and grow a young, dynamic company and not maintain it
    • Emotionally intelligent and able to relate to staff at all levels of the organisation
    • A ‘hands-on’ management style with very strong leadership skills
    • Strong acumen for technology and innovation.
