Financial Controller - Restaurants at Nando's

Minimum Requirements

• 5 years’ experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
• Chartered Accountant CA(SA) / CIMA
• Clear Credit Record
• Driver’s License
• Own Vehicle

• IFRS and Companies Act knowledge (Advanced)
• Tax legislation knowledge (Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, etc) (Advanced)

Duties and Responsibilities

Functional management

• Oversee key Accounting functions within the Finance Department
• Develop and implement functional Financial policies and procedures
• Review, authorise and manage all payments and payment processes
• Ensure the timely closing of periodic and monthly accounting functions and processes
• Provide timely, accurate and effective reports to identified users
• Ensure that financial practices are sound and in accordance with International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS) as well as Company guidelines, policies and procedures
• Work with Corporate departments and Operations to implement controls, policies and procedures to improve efficiencies and profitability
• Establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard Corporate assets
• Review and sign-off reconciliations for areas of assigned responsibility
• Manage the functional balance sheet control and reconciliations
• Oversee Supplier terms and payment processes to maximise working capital efficiencies
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders with regards to Supplier onboarding, categorisation, standardisation etc.
• Work closely with Finance Managers for the audit process and statutory reporting
• Work closely with business and reporting analyst to provide timeous and relevant financial information and ensure system inputs are efficiently conducive to meaningful and dynamic outputs
• Work closely with all Finance Managers to efficiently and cohesively achieve functional goals and a strong financial control environment
• Work closely with Finance Business Partners to ensure overall accuracy in restaurant P&Ls
• Implement initiatives that add value to the Company
• Work on inter-department and cross-functional teams, sharing expertise and business insights
• Understand and interpret economic and market business trends and provide financial insight
• Analyse and advise on the financial impact of key departmental strategies on long-term income growth
• Monitor, measure and report on department operational issues and opportunities
• Influence other departments on the prioritisation of strategies and tactics by providing a financial perspective and relevant financial information to assist with the decision-making process
• Responsible for performance optimisation
• Provide information to management teams on the current profit picture and areas of risk
• Contribute to the development of systems and run reports that provide timely and accurate information to relevant departments
• Manage working capital and cash conversion cycle for the business, monitoring variances and developing processes to optimise working closely with Financial Managers to ensure compliance across the organisation
• Maintain and Improve of Supplier management that is in the best interests of the Company, working closely with Supply Chain to continually improve processes and control business expenditure

Efficient systems development and operating environment

• Manage the functional reporting systems to provide relevant information to key stakeholders and contribute to financial processes and procedures relating to the systems’ integrity
• Identify and recommend system improvement opportunities and support and promote an integrated system development program for the Function
• Work closely with the Systems Project Manager on system implementations and identification of ways to re-engineering processes and systems to reduce workload, build capacity and improve efficiency for the Finance department
• Collaborate with IT and Finance personnel in financial system improvement projects

People management

• Coordinate activities of sub-ordinates in order to ensure that the department’s operational requirements are met
• Assist with selection and actively manage the performance and potential of team, providing upskilling, coaching, mentorship and leadership to support problem solving, assess productivity and recommend changes where required
• Works with the People Team in dealing with grievances and disciplinary issues and ensure their effective resolution.
• Create an engaged and motivated workforce by establishing an environment that fosters collaboration through effective communication, trust, enjoyment, wellbeing, learning and development
• Partner with sub-ordinates to set personal development goals and provide feedback on a regular basis to build their capabilities
