    Financial Planning Analysis & Reporting Manager CA(SA)

    Summary

    This role is responsible for developing, preparing, analyzing and reviewing key Massmart financial information to guide and direct the organization to achieve and over deliver on its targets for future growth, stability & profitability. This entails improving processes, financial information, budgeting & forecasting, periodic reporting & reviewing strategic financial plans.

     

    Functions/Responsibilities:

    Performance Management / Reporting            

    • Ensure that the team is clear on the plan to execute all deliverables, regular feedback through 1-1’s and team engagements with a focus on developing the team and succession planning
    • Motivation and improved work culture is key to maintain a healthy work environment with an engaged team
    • Clear planning and executing the plan toward meeting the FP&A deliverables with credible reporting
    • Compile & consolidate reports for internal reporting as well as other requests as received, providing recommendations & highlighting opportunities
    • Timely and credible reporting to Walmart, also taking into account Sarbanes Oxley reporting standards
    • Hold divisions to account to deliver and exceed their performance targets
    • Regular engagements and partnering with key stakeholders within Massmart and the Divisions to deliver on performance targets
    • Contribute to timely reports of monthly, quarterly, bi-annual & annual numbers (actuals vs targets)
    • Assist with statutory reports due to the Regulator as required (Statistics SA and the South African Reserve Bank)
    • Prepare & review Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and Free Cash Flow reports
    • Enhance, automate & streamline management reporting systems, & map processes to ensure that they align to Statutory and management reports
    • Provide analyses & data for input into the annual report

    Planning & Analyses        

    • Develop, implement & maintain an effective planning & analysis capability that will provide Massmart with appropriate analytical tools to establish goals & measure performance
    • Identify the financial metrics which have a significant effect on the company’s financial performance & develop standardized processes to generate business intelligence on a regular basis
    • Analyse Massmart’s financial performance & ensuring accurate medium & long term forecasts & business planning
    • Provide meaningful information to all Divisional teams to enable sound financial decision making
    • Prepare periodic budgets and forecasts, cash flows, variance analysis & commentaries
    • Advise on financial implications & consequences of business decisions in order to improve business performance
    • Conduct accurate analysis on the financial performance of the company & provide statistical & operational reports to the Finance Executives

    Monitoring & Evaluation    

    • Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts to ensure that spending is in line with these with a focus on continuous improvements
    • Business partnering with the divisions to deliver successful business outcomes
    • Conduct trend analyses in order to recommend ways of margin improvement, reducing costs and improvement to the operating income
    • Monitor & evaluate financial information systems & suggest improvements where needed to improve effectiveness and efficiency
    • Ensure accuracy of forecasts by recommending corrective actions to Executives when trends are unfavorable, driving consistency in reporting across strategic business units
    • Identifying and tracking initiatives at a divisional level and Group in order to manage improved performance from the outset as well as monthly reporting to EXCO
    • Support adhoc requests and focus on ongoing improvement with FP&A

    Budgeting & Forecasting  

    • Budgeting and forecasting system and process improvement delivering credible reporting packs and quick turnaround
    • Prepare effective & accurate short term budget (Annual Operating Plan) and long term budgets for Board, Walmart & Massmart
    • Aggregate and challenge Group budgets & periodic forecasts for final approval by EXCO
    • Provide variance analysis to budget and periodic forecasts, identify added-value reporting opportunities for trend analysis & commentary to assist forecasting & budgeting requirements
    • Prepare submissions and presentations to the Board and other key stakeholders
    • Maintain records & reconciliation controls of approved budgets
    • Routinely communicate business unit & company consolidated financial & operational performance trends, historical & forecasted, using appropriate metrics.
    • Suggest trends, resulting implications, key actions, & strategic implications.

    Capex Management          

    • Design, implement and enforce an effective capex policy and process
    • Prepare monthly capex reporting for EXCO and Walmart
    • Ensure divisions deliver their capex goals and as such deliver the strategy leading to realization of their vision
    • Working Capital     Firm up and implement an effective working capital policy and process
    • Work closely with Treasury on enforcing working capital requirements and targets to achieve improved cash flow
    • Ensure divisions deliver their working capital goals and as such deliver the strategy leading to realization of their vision

    Adhoc  

    • Assist with the audit preparation work to allow for timely completion of the annual financial statements & corporation tax returns
    • Implement corporate governance procedures, risk management & internal controls.
    • Seek business improvement initiatives & automation of financial systems to ensure alignment across Massmart & Walmart
    • Prepare presentations in support of board & shareholder meetings as required

     

    Requirements:

    Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications & Experience required for this position

    Qualifications:

    • CA (Chartered Accountant)

    Experience:

    • 10 years post article experience, Management Accounting experience
    • Financial Planning & Reporting in leadership position in complex structure within multinational or at least multi country organization
    • Finance Director in middle sized organization (preference with brand or activity P&L’s and multi geography)
