    Group Specialist: Employee Relations

    • To lead employee relations and people governance across the group by ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and organisational standards. The role provides expert guidance on labour law, employee relations, data integrity, governance and compliance measures, mitigation of people related risks and represents the organisation in relevant legal forums.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Lead the development and implementation of a people governance framework, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, brand, and organisational governance standards.
    • Design, deploy, and maintain Human Resources (HR) governance frameworks and policies, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) compliance.
    • Act as the subject matter expert for people practice governance, providing guidance on risk management and data integrity.
    • Drive the design and implementation of governance measures, ensuring alignment with HR leadership and other stakeholders.
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute HR audits and assessments to measure compliance across the organisation.
    • Identify and mitigate risks through the creation and implementation of controls, remediation efforts, and risk mitigation strategies
    • Ensure the continuous management of people data integrity, conducting regular audits and clean-up actions.
    • Collaborate with senior leaders and HR colleagues to ensure adherence to people governance requirements and mitigate emerging risks.
    • Develop and deliver training materials to raise awareness of compliance standards within HR teams.
    • Establish and maintain a comprehensive HR governance library, ensuring easy access to relevant resources.
    • Represent CCBA at conferences and workshops, sharing best practices in people governance.

    Skills, Experience & Education    

    Qualifications:

    • A degree in Industrial Psychology, Human Resources, Law, or a related field or admission as an attorney
    • Postgraduate qualification (Honours or Masters) in a relevant area is preferred.

    Experience:

    • 12 to 14 years of experience in Human Resources or consulting, with at least 6 years focused on HR operations and governance.
    • Proven experience in leading HR governance, collective bargaining, risk management, and compliance initiatives.
    • Proven experience representing organisations in legal forums, including disciplinary hearings, CCMA proceedings, arbitration and related dispute resolution platforms.
    • Demonstrated expertise in labour law, with the ability to interpret, apply, and advise on relevant legislation, policies and compliance frameworks.
    • Strong background in people practice audits, legislative compliance, and data integrity management.
    • Experience in developing and implementing HR policies and frameworks in large, complex organisations
    • Prior experience in managing cross-functional projects and working with senior leadership to implement people governance strategies.

    Skills:

    • Strong understanding of HR governance, risk management, and people data management.
    • Labour law expert.
    • Negotiations skills.
    • Expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices and compliance.
    • Proficiency in HR policies, audits, and compliance frameworks.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with senior leaders and stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to manage risks and identify improvements.
    • High level of proficiency in HR technology and data management systems.
    • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
    • Project management skills to handle audits, assessments, and governance initiatives.
