Handyman at South African National Parks (SANParks)

A challenging vacancy currently exists for a Handyman at Mountain Zebra National Park. The successful candidate will report to the Technical Officer.

The remuneration package is based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B2 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Std 10) certificate
• 2 years related experience in the maintenance field
• A Certificate in air-conditioning will be an added advantage
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc
• Provide proof of a valid code B driver’s license, PDP will serve as an added advantage
• Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Knowledge of Air corn, Geysers, stoves, and fridges will be an advantage
• Should be willing to work overtime and irregular hours
• Criminal checks will be done on the successful candidate

Responsibilities:

• Physically carrying out relevant semi-skilled tasks such as tiling, painting, plumbing, small electrical works, small civil works and welding, and much more technical related work in accordance with predetermined quality and productivity standards
• Transporting equipment, materials and staff
• Carrying out general administrative tasks such as the completion of time sheets, log sheets, leave forms, and other month-end paperwork whenever required
• Assist with waste-water and water treatment plants
• Assist with inventory and issuing of materials
• Provide technical support to all Park related projects and to various divisions in the park
• To ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
• To monitor machines, equipment, inventory, and materials to ensure optimal functioning
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
