Hatchery Manager (Malmesbury) at RCL Foods

The Role

The RCL FOODS Talent Acquisition Team is on the hunt for a highly skilled Hatchery Manager with strong knowledge on breeders and broilers. The successful candidate will report to the Agriculture Executive within the FOODS Division and will be based in Malmesbury.

The purpose of the Hatchery Manager:

• To manage the operations and resources of the hatchery.
• To manage the setting of the maximum number of eggs with a maximum hatchability to ensure the highest standards are met and produce good quality chicks for the customer at the lowest cost.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or suitable alternative qualification
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role, 2-3 of which in a management capacity
• Valid Code EB drivers’ licence
• Experience with Poultry is essential
• Knowledge of Breeders and Broilers

Responsibilities

Production Management

• Develop and implement policies and practices for the operation of the hatchery to ensure attainment of goals and profitable operation.
• Conduct operational planning for future production including planning equipment and supply needs, production and work schedules.
• Through the planner, arrange with farmers to supply eggs or obtain eggs from company-owned flocks.
• Prepare hatching schedules for chicks considering such factors as planning targets and hatchery facilities and equipment.

Information, Data Management and Reporting

• Use relevant information from Agric cubes and Mtech to analyse and to make the right decisions with regard to operational management and costs.
• Report on the hatchability (or Hatchery KPI’s) and health status of chicks.
• Report on flock performance; MTech Systems; vaccination programmes and total hatchery supply chain.
• Report all variances in relation to standard, egg numbers, quality of eggs and fertility.

Budget and Cost Control

• Provide input into and utilise the financial budget optimally.
• Ensure the hatchery meets budgetary targets by working within agreed financial boundaries.
• Manage immoveable and moveable operational assets to ensure optimal usage in line with best production practice.

Bio-Security Management

• Manage the implementation of Biosecurity measures to ensure the highest security standards.
• Ensure that all security procedures are adhered to and that access doors and gates are locked at all times to prevent unauthorised and unmonitored access.

Hatchery Compliance

• Ensure the hatchery and all its operations comply with all relevant TQMS, health, safety and environmental requirements as well as legal requirements relating to fire breaks, water usage and effluent management.
• Ensure that H&S Meetings are held as prescribed by OHSA

Maintenance

• Monitor the implementation of the Maintenance program
• Ensure that assets, plant and equipment are appropriately maintained to ensuring that they operate at optimum levels.
• Manage the implementation of capital and major maintenance projects.
