Head of EHS - Nigel at Alstom

PURPOSE AND MISSION OF THE JOB:

• Provide advice, strategies and problem solving to project personnel on all  manufacturing project environmental health and safety issues to achieve the company’s EHS goals during the project, as well as develop and implement project EHS management plans and standards, aligned with the Alstom EHS management system and delivery approach.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL

• Sourcing local/central, Platform & Project teams, Supplier Quality, Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Engineering and Train Sub System for RS/Compo.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Ensure continuous consultation and cooperation with the EHS team, internal and external customers
• Ensure  review and monitoring of  contractors’ EHS management plans and safe work procedures before work commences
• Facilitate the hazard analysis, risk assessment and incident investigation processes across the project
• Review effective implementation of corrective actions from incident investigations
• Ensure timeous submission of EHS reports to the management team. Reporting must take into account the Alstom sustainability goals.
• Monitor and report on compliance with site project rules, EHS management plans and procedures at regular intervals.
• Provide and assist with application of workplace EHS  systems; support and procedures for use by all site based personnel
• Advise on prequalification checks, competency and track record assessments of contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and labour force as required by Ubunye project management.
• Advise and inform Project/Manufacturing/Area Managers on all EHS and sustainability matters.
• Perform site inspections to monitor compliance to the Alstom EHS Specifications.
• Ensure compliance with AZDP protocols such as the lifesaving rules in High Risk Activities controls.
• Attend all project EHS meetings and advise construction project team on EHS compliance.
• Providing assistance and mentoring to all Project EHS practitioners.
• Ensure legal EHS compliance by all parties on site, such as OHS Ac t, RS Rand associated regulations, NEMA, etc.
• Anticipate regulatory trends and their implications. Establish adherence to the sustainability laws and regulations that apply to this industry and internal processes.
• Enact policies and procedures in line with the Alstom sustainability agenda
• Embed sustainability into EHS processes and internal decision making.

QUALIFICATIONS

• National diploma/equivalent or higher in an environmental, health and safety field of study.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years of EHS experience
• Aligned with the Alstom values.
• Ability to work with and lead people/People skills
