FEM is looking to appoint a Head of Finance. Reporting to the CFO, the successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing and leading all functions within the Finance area, including transaction processing in the General Ledger, internal and external reporting, and budget preparation and ensuring effective and efficient governance in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Additionally, the role involves simplifying and automating finance processes, controls, and systems where possible.
The incumbent will lead and manage a team, fostering their development and contributing to business growth.
Further requirements are to ensure accurate monthly financial reporting and IFRS17 compliance; lead finance processes, handle technical calculations, support the CFO in planning and budgeting, and manage reconciliations and audit; work with IT on automation projects and liaise with business partners and board members; minimize risks, maintain the risk register, conduct risk assessments and escalate issues; support the CFO with governance; collaborate with stakeholders, provide solutions, and ensure high service standards; engage with business areas for process alignment and knowledge sharing.
In addition, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of IRFS17 as well as the ability to demonstrate competence to learn and apply new rules and regulations.
The minimum requirements of the position are a CA (SA) with a membership in good standing with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
A minimum of 4-years post articles experience coupled with 3+ years relevant insurance industry experience, 3+ years in managing successful finance teams and ability to demonstrate experience in the development and enhancement of current business practices are essential pre-requisites for the position.
The successful applicant must also be able to demonstrate experience and progressive advancement in financial positions within a financial environment and in addition experience of working with executive teams and reporting into formal forums, namely boards and executive committees. At times, the individual must be able to work non-standard hours to ensure deadlines and objectives are achieved.
