    Health and Safety Manager (Fixed Term)

    Job Description    

    • Coca Cola Beverages South Africa has an exciting opportunity in the Manufacturing & Technical Department. We are looking for a seasoned individual with necessary skills & experience for a Health & Saftey Manager (Fixed Term) role reporting into the Health & Safety Lead.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities    
    Key Outcomes

    Health and Safety Strategy Execution

    • Implement national H&S strategies at the plant in alignment with corporate objectives and legislative requirements.
    • Lead the local implementation of KORE and ISO 45001 systems.

    Compliance and Risk Management

    • Conduct regular risk assessments and update site-specific risk registers.
    • Monitor adherence to legal and company standards and drive corrective actions where gaps exist.
    • Ensure readiness for Department of Labour inspections and external audits.

    Audit Management

    • Prepare for, facilitate, and follow up on internal and external audits (e.g., KORE, ISO 45001).
    • Track and close out audit findings effectively.

    Incident Management

    • Lead investigations for all incidents and near misses, using root cause analysis tools (RCA, 5 Whys).
    • Ensure prompt implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

    Training and Capacity Building

    • Manage and facilitate H&S training for all plant personnel, contractors, and visitors.
    • Ensure accurate training records are maintained.

    Performance Monitoring and Reporting

    • Maintain and report on H&S KPIs, trends, and action plans to plant leadership and Head Office.
    • Use data insights to identify focus areas and drive proactive interventions.

    Emergency Preparedness and Response

    • Develop and test emergency plans and procedures in line with regulatory and internal standards.
    • Coordinate with security and local emergency services.

    People Management

    • Lead, mentor, and manage the performance of the Health and Safety Controller and Administrator.
    • Promote a safety-first mindset through coaching and on-the-floor engagement.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Collaborate with production, maintenance, QSE, HR, and other departments to embed safety in operations.
    • Represent the site in national H&S forums and initiatives.

    • Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)
    • Recordable Incident Rate (RIR)
    • Near Miss Reporting Rate
    • Audit and Inspection Compliance Rate
    • Corrective Action Closure Rate
    • Training Completion %
    • Safety Observation Participation Rate
    • Regulatory Compliance Score

    Skills, Experience & Education    
    Education

    • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering or related field (required)
    • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH Certificate / relevant OHS certifications (required)
    • ISO 45001 Auditor Training (advantageous)Registration with a professional body such as SACPCMP (CHSM/CHSO) or IOSH (preferred)

    Experience

    • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in an H&S role within manufacturing, preferably FMCG or food & beverage industry
    • Demonstrated success in implementing safety systems and driving culture change in a plant environment
    • Strong experience managing safety teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders
    • Experience working with contractors and third-party compliance frameworks.

    Skills

    • In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation and standards
    • Familiarity with Coca-Cola KORE or other globally recognized safety management systems
    • Strong proficiency in conducting root cause analyses and implementing CAPA
    • Competence in safety risk assessments, JHAs, permit-to-work systems
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels
    • Ability to use safety management software and tools
    • Strong MS Office proficiency
