Hearing Impaired Subtitle Creator at MultiChoice

Purpose of the Position:

• To create closed captions (hearing impaired subtitles) for identified content
• Apply full script quality control, identify spelling, grammar mistakes, subtitle timing and presentation on the closed caption, to ensure that all these elements adhere to MultiChoice’s technical standard.
• To effectively manage quick turn-around of all local and international content received

Tasks

Hearing Impaired Subtitle Creation and Script Quality Control                                                                                                                  

• Ensure media processed is compliant with European Broadcast Union (EBU) Subtitle (STL) standard for various platforms                                                                                         
• Confirm media and import media to Vantage for broadcast                                                                                                                                   
• Ensure that the supplied script is condensed into words that still convey the meaning of the conversation to the viewer
• Time each caption accurately as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
• Source and request broadcast script (from Traffic)
• Effective reporting on issues identified during the creation and validation process

• Meet on time delivery for all content delivered on Catch up, Over The Top (OTT) and Showmax
• Communicate any issues to the technical/content teams with regards to delays that might impact delivery
• Provide effective reports on technical issues to relevant engineering teams
• Effective storage of completed STLs                                                                                                          

Daily handover reporting

• Ensure that a report, covering all issues, is submitted to the rest of the teams at the end of the shift
• Update daily output sheets on the Sharedrive or relevant documentation platform
• Highlight files that are work-in-progress and need to be handed over
• Actively participate in process improvement initiatives            

Minimum formal qualifications:

• Diploma in Broadcasting /Media Studies/Video Editing Or equivalent
• Product specific training: Caption Maker, WinCaps and Subtitle Edit (preferred)

Experience

• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in broadcast and subtitle editing software
• A solid understanding of different digital video and audio formats
• Knowledge of the broadcast value chain, and experience in MultiChoice’s delivery process
• Ability to develop and maintain clear and understandable reports
• An understanding of MultiChoice systems such as Synergy, Elemental, Ardome, VizOne, VizConnect, CDN, CMS ,NVP, Cybertron, IXS and Vantage would be an advantage
