IT Network and Security Support Engineer - Melrose Arch, Jhb at Country Bird Holdings Ltd (CBH)

Job Advert Summary    
The role of the position is to support the acquisition, implementation and upkeep of all resources required to maintain the security and connectivity of the Company network and digital assets, including the corporate data network, printers, computers, servers, data communications and electronic storage.
Common functions include administering security software and assessment tools, undertaking computer forensics, analysing and managing networks for potential security threats, monitoring and testing disaster recovery solutions, and monitoring network security protocols to protect digital assets. This includes configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links.

Minimum Requirements    

• Grade 12
• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related discipline is preferred.
• 5 years practical experience in IT Support, IT Infrastructure, IT Operations, or similar fields.
• Some experience with programming and writing scripts (i.e., PowerShell, Python, Batch scripting, etc.) is preferred.
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
• Able to work overtime when required.
• Moderate experience in enterprise security architecture design.
• Moderate experience in creating and maintaining enterprise security documentation.
• Experience in delivering employee security awareness training.
• Experience in following Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans.
• Experience with the Microsoft Cloud eco system, including Azure, Intune, Exchange Online, Onedrive and Sharepoint.
• Broad hands-on knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, data encryption, and other industry-standard techniques and practices such as ZTNA.
• Hands-on experience with devices such as biometric devices, wireless access points, IP phones, switches, routers, laptops, desktop and servers.
• Basic knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.
• Virtualization and Hyper-V skills would be advantageous.
• Exposure to network, server and application monitoring would be advantageous.
• Experience with SD-WAN such as the Cisco Meraki SD-WAN and Security platform would be preferrable.
• Good understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, ICMP, SNMP and other network administration protocols is required.
• Experience working with a Service Desk / ITSM system. Any ITIL knowledge would be a plus.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to learn, be able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities    

• Support and maintain the Company’s security, as well as network architecture design.
• Support and maintain the Company’s security awareness training program.
• Provide input into the Company’s security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines, and procedures).
• Provide input into the Company’s Business Continuity Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan, where appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
• Monitor and support all network and security solutions including any enhancements to existing network and security solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures generically and the Company’s security documents specifically.
• Provide input on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
• Provide input on security products, services, protocols, and standards in support of Operational Management
• Monitor the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data residing on or transmitted to/from/through enterprise workstations, servers and other systems and in databases and other data repositories.
• Monitor the enforcement of enterprise security documents, guidelines and standards.
• Assist in investigations into problematic activity and provide on-going feedback to the Network and Security Manager.
• Implement mitigations based on the outcomes of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and security audits.
• Perform regular security awareness training for all employees to ensure consistently high levels of compliance with enterprise security documents.
• Engage in ongoing communications with peers and the various business groups to ensure enterprise wide understanding of security goals, to solicit feedback and to foster co-operation.
• Support the security of network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
• Maintaining end-point network connectivity and resolving any issues that may arise.
• Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
• Monitor updates and patching of operating systems for end points as well as servers
• Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
