    Junior Electro-Mechanical Sub-Assembly Repair Technician

    About the Role

    • The Junior Electro-Mechanical Sub-Assembly Repair Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and refurbishment of electro-mechanical sub-assemblies used in the Bulk Deposit Acceptor.
    • The role includes fault diagnosis and recording using proprietary diagnostic software and test equipment, hands on electro-mechanical repair work, and testing of completed assemblies and sub-assemblies across mechanical, electronic, and - where relevant - software aspects.
    • As a junior role, the position includes structured on-the-job mentorship from the Senior Electronic Engineer, with the expectation that the incumbent will progressively build competency to handle a wider range of fault types and repair complexity over time.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Diagnose faults on electro-mechanical sub-assemblies used in the Bulk Deposit Acceptor, using proprietary diagnostic software and test equipment.
    • Accurately record diagnostic findings, fault codes, and root cause information against each unit's job card or repair record.
    • Repair and refurbish electro-mechanical sub-assemblies to the required specification, including replacement, rework, or re-calibration of mechanical and electronic components.
    • Carry out basic soldering and de-soldering on PCBs where required to support component-level repairs, under guidance where necessary.
    • Test completed assemblies and sub-assemblies - covering mechanical, electronic, and where relevant, software/firmware aspects - against approved test specifications.
    • Sign off and release only units that pass all required test stages before they are returned to stock, production, or dispatch.
    • Follow standard operating procedures, diagnostic protocols, and repair work instructions consistently and without unauthorized deviation.
    • Always apply ESD-safe handling practices when working with sensitive electronic components.
    • Escalate faults that fall outside of scope, or that suggest a recurring or design-related root cause, to the Senior Electronic Engineer.
    • Maintain accurate job cards, repair histories, and test/traceability records for every unit handled.
    • Use diagnostic equipment, test rigs, soldering equipment, and hand tools correctly, safely, and within calibration requirements.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in line with 5S and SHEQ requirements.
    • Actively develop technical knowledge and repair competency under the mentorship of the Senior Electronic Engineer, progressing to handle increasingly complex faults over time.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Required

    • Matric essential, including Mathematics and Physical Science (or equivalent).
    • A qualification or in-progress studies in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (N4-N6, or equivalent), Mechatronics, or a related discipline is required.
    • 0-2 years' experience in an electro-mechanical repair, assembly, or test environment; this is a junior level role and candidates keen to develop within the field are encouraged to apply.
    • Exposure to soldering/de-soldering on PCBs, use of test/measuring instruments, or basic faultfinding is advantageous.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic software tools is advantageous but full training will be provided.

    Key Competencies

    • Strong mechanical and electronic aptitude, with a genuine interest in hands-on diagnostic and repair work.
    • Good attention to detail and a methodical, disciplined approach to fault-finding and documentation.
    • Ability to follow diagnostic protocols and work instructions accurately.
    • Basic understanding of electronic circuits and components; willingness to build deeper technical knowledge on the job.
    • Comfortable using computers and proprietary diagnostic software (full training provided).
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for accurate fault reporting and escalation.
    • Team player, reliable, and eager to learn and progress under supervision.
    • Physically able to perform bench-based repair work, including handling sub-assemblies and components of moderate weight using correct technique and equipment provided.

    Closing Date 28 August 2026
