The CSIR has a vacancy for a Laboratory Assistant in the Rope Testing Laboratory of Mining Testing & Training within the Mining Cluster. The purpose of this role is to receive and prepare rope samples for destructive testing in the rope testing laboratory. This Position will be based in Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
Assist fellow employees in other areas of the laboratory when required;
Provide support to technical staff;
Rope receiving and preparation;
Proper storage and sorting of ropes in the receiving area;
Ensure accuracy of information supplied on test application form;
Assist with various tasks within the rope testing lab;
Split and remove white metal collars and remove white metal flashing from specimens;
Transporting rope specimens from one station to the next in the laboratory;
Housekeeping in area of responsibility;
Carry out detailed instructions or procedures which do not require high level of skills;
Carry out other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor or line manager.
Qualifications, Skills And Experience
A Grade 12 certificate with at least one year technical experience;
