    Laboratory Technician - Somkhele

    Overview of Duties

    • Perform day to day laboratory functions including stock management, assembly of sample collection kits, distribution, processing testing and storage of specimens as well as ad hoc activities as indicated by the line manager or Head of the Diagnostic Research.
    • Shipping of specimen between AHRI laboratories as well as shipping of specimen locally and internationally according to IATA standards.
    • Use of Laboratory Information Management system and REDCap for receiving and logging of samples, generating labels, capturing of specimen data and storage inventories.
    • Logistical co-ordination of clinical samples.
    • General housekeeping and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
    • Compliance with Health and Safety and Company policies and procedures as well as GCLP/ISO15189 requirements.
    • Assist with developing, review and implementation of quality control and assurance procedures.
    • Assist with developing and review of SOPs, documents and workflows.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • B Tech or BSc Honours degree in Medical Microbiology, Virology or another related and relevant field.
    • Registered with HPCSA

    Minimum Experience

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a diagnostic or research laboratory setting.
    • Experience working in a high throughput laboratory will be highly advantageous.
    • Experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System will be advantageous.
    • Experience in processing and storage of various biological samples and performing various diagnostic tests.
    • Knowledge of operating in a SANAS accredited laboratory (ISO 15189 or similar) and or Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) compliant.

    Advantageous

    • SA Citizen or SA Resident with current work visa is an essential requirement.
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
    • Prior vaccination for Hepatitis B.
