    Lecture In Life Orientation (P001306)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • The purpose of this position is to contribute to teaching, research, and community engagement in the field of Life Orientation. The role includes facilitating learning in both contact and distance modes, using English and Afrikaans as Languages of Learning, Teaching, and Assessment. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to advance research and scholarship in Life Orientation, including contributions at the postgraduate level.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching

    • Teaching several modules in Life Orientation/Life Skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – in both distance and contact mode.

     Research and supervision

    • Research and postgraduate supervision in the field Life Orientation/Life Skills or Learner Support or Educational Psychology, with appropriate publications.

    Programme development

    • Curriculum development, among others developing study material and study guides for Life Orientation/Life Skills modules in the different programmes.

    Administration

    • Administration of assignments, assessments, marks, resources, etc.

    Community engagement

    • Community Service.

    Work integrated learning

    • Work-Integrated Learning / Teaching Practice

    Minimum requirements

    • A master’s degree with a focus on Research in Life Orientation/ Life Skills, Learner Support or Educational Psychology (NQF level 9).
    •  A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching and learning experience in a higher education environment.
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching or working in school settings.

    ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • Registration with the South African Council for Educators.
    • Lecturing experience in a Higher Education environment full-time or part-time basis.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Driver’s license.
    • Innovative teaching and lecturing skills.
    • Skilled in teaching Life Orientation students.
    • Comprehensive IT skills and knowledge.
    • Ability to function in the multi-lingual NWU environment.
    • Functional knowledge of education sector / system.
    • Skills, experience and knowledge to develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Life Orientation.
    • Research competencies that contribute to the advancement of Life orientation.

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
    • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Effective time management.
    • Ethical principles and academic integrity.
