    Lecturer: Life Science-Biology in Education

    Requirements:

    • A teaching qualification is a prerequisite. However, candidates without a teaching qualification must be willing to register and complete a teaching qualification such as the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education to be considered for the post. The enrolment for the teaching qualification must occur within ONE YEAR of assuming duty.
    • Masters in Education (MEd) (Life Science/Biology Education)
    • At least three (3) years of teaching experience.
    • B.Sc Honours in Life Sciences (Botany or Zoology) and DHET accredited journal articles will be an added advantage.
    • Ability to provide supervision to postgraduate students.
    • Strong leadership and good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience in developing curricula, especially in Life Sciences/Biology Education.
    • Have a valid driver’s licence.

    Competencies:

    • The applicant should be able to work as part of a team, and yet also take initiative in research projects and contribute to the development of programmes offered in the Department.

    Duties:
    The incumbent will be required to:

    • Initiate and develop curriculum and course materials in Life Sciences / Biology Education.
    • Coordinate modules in Life Sciences / Biology Education.
    • Contribute towards the Department’s transformational and strategic goals.
    • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
    • Conduct tutorials, demonstrations, workshops for students and staff.
    • Participate in academic administration such as attendance at departmental, school and /or faculty meetings.
    • Consultation, supervision and teaching of students at postgraduate and undergraduate level.
