    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    RESEARCH

    • Conduct research projects as required
    • Quality assurance of research outputs
    • Drive and grow international collaboration.
    • Support engaged research in the faculty

    TEACHING & LEARNING

    • Teach courses as required
    • Quality assurance and management of teaching outputs.
    • Drive and manage teaching and learning productivity and outputs 
    • Manage and partake in student communication and support activities. 

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

    • Participate in community engagement activities

    LEADERSHIP

    • Participate in the leadership / adminstrative activities of the Physics Subject Group and the Centre for Space Research

    Minimum requirements

    • PhD in Astrophysics / Astronomy / Space Physics / Material Physics
    • 2 years’ teaching and learning experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
    • 1 year post-graduate supervison and training experience
    • 2 years’ experience as an active researcher

    KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Research interests should align with the scope of the Centre for Space Research (CSR): Radio / Optical / Gamma-ray Astronomy / Cosmic-ray Physics / Heliospheric / Space Physics / Material Sciences for Space Applications.
    • Record of postgraduate student supervision
    • Record of successfully applying for research funding will be beneficial.
    • Leadership and outreach (community engagement) experience will be beneficial.
    • Demonstrable theoretical / modelling / experimental physics expertise.
    • Teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate physics context.Excellent problem solving skills 
    • Excellent computer skills
    • Knowledge of the higher education system
    • Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU
