The Department of Linguistics, University of the Witwatersrand, seeks to make an appointment at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (to start in January 2023).
Requirements: Candidates should have experience in teaching the subject at university level, and be keen researchers with an established publication record. It is critical that candidates demonstrate an ability to teach two or more courses offered in the department. A successful candidate will be one with a distinct track record in morphology, syntax and historical linguistics. The ability to offer forensic and/or computational linguistics courses is an added advantage.
For appointment, candidates should have a PhD, an appropriate level of experience in departmental academic management, and a teaching, postgraduate supervision, research, and public profile commensurate with the rank.
In addition; applicants for Senior Lecturer must have a highly developed record of teaching and research.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be required to take on administrative and leadership roles in the department; lecture and tutor a wide-ranging curriculum across all years of study; supervise postgraduate students; be research-active in areas related to the discipline, participate in interdisciplinary research and teaching; and take part in the intellectual and public life of the School and University.
