Key Accountabilities
The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:
- Executive and Administrative Support
- Manage the Deputy Commissioner’s office operations, diary, scheduling and executive priorities.
- Screen, prioritise and coordinate correspondence, requests, calls and engagements directed to the Deputy Commissioner.
- Coordinate meeting preparation, including agendas, presentations, briefing packs, meeting notes and follow-up actions.
- Review and quality-check documents prior to the Deputy Commissioner’s review.
- Compile and consolidate reports, submissions, presentations and other executive documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriate decorum when handling sensitive information and VIP engagements.
- Assist with special projects, events and initiatives as requested by the Deputy Commissioner.
- Champion and coordinate projects emanating from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Operational Coordination and Programme Support
- Coordinate and monitor strategic and operational initiatives assigned to the Deputy Commissioner.
- Track progress on projects, commitments, decisions and assigned deliverables.
- Follow up with relevant Divisional Managers, project teams and internal stakeholders on agreed actions and timelines.
- Consolidate operational reports and status updates for the Deputy Commissioner.
- Proactively identify operational issues, delays and matters requiring attention and facilitate appropriate follow-up.
- Support the Deputy Commissioner in translating executive priorities into coordinated operational delivery.
Governance and Meeting Coordination
- Coordinate management, governance and operational meetings chaired by or involving the Deputy Commissioner.
- Facilitate inputs and prepare agendas, meeting documentation and relevant briefing material.
- Take accurate minutes and maintain appropriate action and decision records, where required.
- Monitor and follow up on agreed actions and commitments.
- Ensure the timeous distribution of pre- and post-meeting information and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records and appropriate document control.
Stakeholder Management
- Provide professional client liaison and stakeholder coordination on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
- Coordinate engagements with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between the Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Managers, project teams and other relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate effective communication and information flow between the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and operational divisions.
- Liaise with stakeholders regarding appointments, meetings, engagements and required follow-up.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the institution.
- Ensure relevant reports and information are distributed to internal and external stakeholders as required.
Logistics and Executive Office Coordination
- Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements, including complex itineraries and international travel/training logistics.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, conference calls and other executive engagements.
- Coordinate conferences, workshops, stakeholder engagements and events involving the Deputy Commissioner.
- Attend to meeting logistics, including catering, venues, parking and invitations.
- Communicate calendar and logistical changes to affected stakeholders timeously.
- Ensure all relevant operational and protocol arrangements are appropriately coordinated.
Administrative and Information Management
- Draft, format, edit and quality-check letters, documents, templates, presentations and submissions with minimal guidance.
- Compile, consolidate and maintain reports, spreadsheets and meeting materials.
- Develop and maintain an efficient records management and retrieval system.
- Maintain confidential files, records and sensitive information appropriately.
- Coordinate office administrative requirements and maintain relevant expenditure records.
- Provide general administrative support necessary for the effective functioning of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
- Proactively identify operational issues and provide practical solutions to support smooth office operations.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly organised, proactive and experienced executive support professional who meets the following requirements:
- A completed NQF Level 6 qualification in Office Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related. A completed NQF Level 7 qualification would be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 6 years’ proven executive personal assistant and/or executive-office coordination experience, supporting a senior executive such as an Executive Manager, Deputy Commissioner, Executive Director or equivalent. 8+ years' proven executive personal assistant and/or executive-office coordination experience, supporting a senior executive such as an Executive Manager, Deputy Commissioner, Executive Director or equivalent is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating executive schedules, complex logistics, travel and high-level engagements.
- Experience in supporting governance, management and operational meetings, including the preparation of agendas, briefing material, minutes and action tracking.
- Experience in coordinating and monitoring executive projects, commitments and deliverables.
- Experience in reviewing and ensuring the quality and accuracy of documents prior to executive review.
- Experience in stakeholder coordination and liaison across different levels of an organisation and with external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of billing, invoicing and reconciliation processes in collaboration with relevant divisions.
- Knowledge of public relations and maintaining the professional image of an executive office.
- Advanced proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
- Excellent planning, organising and time-management skills.

Key Accountabilities

- Provide strategic and technical support to the Deputy Commissioner in the execution of the Commission’s mandate.
- Review and provide opinions and strategic advice on cases before the Commission.
- Provide the Deputy Commissioner with briefings on matters dealt with at Executive Committee meetings and other relevant institutional forums.
- Support the Deputy Commissioner’s decision-making through appropriate legal, economic and policy analysis.
- Provide guidance and technical support to case teams, as and when required, ensuring that investigation outputs are based on sound theoretical concepts.
- Conduct research and provide advice on developments in competition law, economics and policy in South Africa and internationally.
- Provide advice on relevant economic and competition policy developments.
- Lead and support special projects as required by the Deputy Commissioner.
- Prepare speeches, presentations, briefings and other strategic material for the Deputy Commissioner, including in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders.
- Assist with engagements with government and other relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international policymakers and stakeholders in the fields of competition law and economics.
- Liaise effectively with relevant internal stakeholders in support of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures relating to case management.
- Participate in Commission committees, task teams and other relevant forums as required.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly experienced competition law/economics professional who meets the following requirements:
- A four-year degree in Law or Economics.
- An LLM or Masters degree in Law or Economics will be an advantage.
- A minimum of 8 - 10 years’ experience in competition law or competition economics.
- Strong understanding of Competition Law or Competition Economics.
- Ability to read, analyse and interpret complex documents and provide sound strategic advice.
- Strong research, investigation and analytical capability.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare speeches, articles, briefings and presentations on complex matters.
- Strong diplomacy, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong project and case-management capability.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Key Accountabilities
The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, amongst others, include:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Commission, including the formulation and review of institutional strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Define and drive the M&A Division’s strategy, business plans, performance objectives and budget in alignment with the Commission’s strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction on the investigation and evaluation of merger applications, including complex and high-impact matters.
- Oversee the effective management and timely finalisation of merger cases, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, policies and statutory timelines.
- Review and approve merger case reports for consideration by the Executive Committee and Commission and oversee the preparation of matters referred to the Competition Tribunal.
- Provide strategic guidance on appropriate merger remedies and represent the Commission in negotiations and proceedings, where required.
- Oversee the monitoring and enforcement of merger conditions and ensure appropriate action in instances of non-compliance.
- Monitor merger activity in the economy and oversee appropriate action in respect of potential contraventions and non-notified mergers.
- Advise the Commissioner and executive leadership on pertinent merger and acquisition matters, emerging developments and associated institutional risks.
- Contribute expertise and strategic input through EXCO, Commission and other governance structures and strategic forums.
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with competition authorities, government, trade unions, industry stakeholders and other relevant institutions.
- Represent and promote the Commission’s mandate and expertise at relevant local and international forums.
- Drive continuous improvement of divisional policies, processes, systems and technology to enhance efficiency and regulatory effectiveness.
- Provide strategic leadership to the Division, including performance management, succession planning, talent development, coaching and mentorship.
Requirements
We are looking for a strategic and accomplished leader who meets the following requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Economics, Law or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in Finance, Corporate Finance, Investment, Financial Analysis or a related field would be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 10 years’ overall related working experience in a competition/regulatory environment, including at least 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.
- Experience operating at an executive level, including reporting to or engaging directly with a CEO, Board, Executive Committee or equivalent senior governance structure, would be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Competition Law, Economics and the broader business and regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated experience in providing strategic leadership and direction within a complex regulatory environment.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and provide strategic guidance on complex legal, economic and regulatory matters.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership and people-management capability.
