Maintenance Supervisor (Permanent Position) at Lancet Laboratories

Job Summary:

• To plan, coordinate, and supervise maintenance, renovation, and repair activities across laboratories and depots, ensuring all work is completed efficiently, safely, within budget, and in line with quality standards. The role oversees a multi-disciplinary team and liaises with internal stakeholders and external contractors to maintain optimal functionality and presentation of Lancet’s facilities.

Minimum Criteria Needed:

• Grade 12 or N3 Engineering Certificate
• Trade Test Certificate (Electrical / Air Conditioning)
• Electrical Wireman’s License
• Valid Driver’s License

Minimum Experience:

• 3-5 Yrs Building Maintenance Supervisory Experience

Key Performmance Areas:
Maintenance Operations

• Plan laboratory and depot renovations, including scheduling of equipment, tools, and budget requirements.
• Conduct site visits with external contractors to assess work progress and quality.
• Prioritise, allocate, and schedule maintenance activities on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Compile and submit weekly and monthly maintenance reports and job lists.
• Ensure job cards are created and logged by general staff via Meditech or telephonic requests.
• Continuously consult with the Maintenance Coordinator to align priorities and resolve issues.
• Reassess project costs and turnaround times to ensure cost-effective solutions.
• Coordinate with contractors regarding work to be performed, timelines, and quality assurance.
• Attend and contribute to daily maintenance meetings, monthly departmental meetings with Purchasing and Stores, and ad hoc on-site contractor meetings.

Supervision and Team Management

• Delegate work assignments to team leaders and monitor completion of job cards.
• Supervise all trades, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, and general maintenance tasks (e.g., furniture moves, window replacements).
• Oversee building and renovation tasks such as drywall installation, ceramic tiling, landscaping, and leveling.
• Monitor daily morning meetings for progress on outstanding work and provide guidance to teams.
• Authorise leave and participate in recruitment and performance discussions for the maintenance team.

Quality Control

• Conduct quality control checks to ensure tools and equipment are maintained to operational standards.
• Oversee vehicle and tool checklists daily; coordinate with Transport Department for servicing and repairs.
• Ensure all Health and Safety protocols are followed across laboratories and depots.

Service Delivery

• Respond to internal maintenance requests logged via Meditech.
• Address and resolve external client complaints through on-site visits and follow-up actions.
• Strive to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through timely and effective problem-solving.
• Liaise with department heads to identify and resolve maintenance issues.
