Manager: Information Delivery (Solution Delivery /BI) at Santam Insurance

JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the role includes the following:

• Ensure that the data systems are designed, built and operated in an effective and efficient manner. 
• Ensure technical delivery and operation of data applications with specific focus on appropriateness, technical quality, maintainability, performance and availability.
• Ensure the delivery of BI initiatives, and BI delivery streams as parts of broader initiatives. This would include, but not be limited to the BI renewal project and the support the BI Cloud transition.
• Engage with stakeholders to obtain an understanding of their data and business intelligence demand.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manager: Information Delivery (Solution Delivery /BI) will provide the following key services: 
STRATEGY EXECUTION:

• Support the end-to-end data strategy and roadmap, spanning from data acquisition, data integration, processing, management and usage for the Santam Group
• Identify opportunities to influence the improvement or enhancement of business processes and methodologies as it relates to BI by researching and recommending improvement initiatives and effective ways to operate and add value to Santam

SOLUTION DELIVERY AND MANAGEMENT:

• Data Delivery/Operational Excellence
• Manages all aspects of data acquisition 
• Analyse and provide input on new data sources and recommend improvements to existing data and identify trends in information usage
• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of activities that collect, manage, and distribute data
• Detail planning of technical delivery of new applications and application extensions
• Set and ensure compliance with development and solution design standards
• Plan, select and implement new technology enablers as needed
• Ensure appropriateness, quality & completeness of solutions
• Build strong partnerships with Business Change Manager, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, IT Business Delivery Managers, Enterprise Architecture and external vendors
• Ensure appropriateness, quality & completeness of solutions
• Design the logical and physical data models
• Liaise with the IT Architects on matters of architectural application
• Design ETL process, including data quality and testing
• Write Design documentation as required by the SDLC 
• Design support and assistance to other team members
• Provide assistance up and down the information delivery chain when required. 
• Document system/data problems and resolutions for future reference.
• Ensure synergy between systems/data design and the business processes 
• Responsible for writing, storing and maintaining delivered analysis documentation in central knowledge repository 
• Identification of potential risks/issues and give input into risk plan 
• Perform change impact assessment to existing systems and interfaces with other systems

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

• Manage performance and development of +/- 5 direct reports
• Assist with the growth in performance, capacity and capability within the team through effective knowledge transfer
• Provide training, mentorship and leadership to direct and inspire a high-performance team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Relevant IT Degree or relevant qualifications
• 10 years + of working experience within a BI environment 
• 5+ years of exposure to BI data architecture
• Minimum 5 years strong data management experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience managing technical staff
