    Manager: Operations (Hinterland)

    Responsibilities:

    Strategy Development, Implementation, and Excellence

    • Contribute to strategic plans aligned with the company's vision and values.
    • Communicate strategies to stakeholders for understanding and commitment.
    • Implement and maintain operational standards, ensuring alignment with company policies.
    • Develop and execute action plans to address operational shortfalls.
    • Monitor the execution of strategies and review tactical plans for alignment.

    Operational Performance, Cost Management, and Capital Expenditure

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive reporting framework to track and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) for each retail outlet and fuels and the overall business.
    • Generate operational cost performance reports and analyse metrics.
    • Analyse data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
    • Monitor key operational checklists, such as process controllers' reports, self-audit reports, risk reports, ready-for-business reports, and branch evaluation reports.
    • Collaborate with relevant teams to develop comprehensive business cases for capital expenditures.

    Asset Management and Maintenance

    • Coordinate the procurement process for various assets, including fleet vehicles, equipment, office furniture, air conditioners, forklifts, generators (alternative energy), and IT infrastructure.
    • Ensure that assets are obtained efficiently and cost-effectively aligned with Hinterland’s budget and needs.
    • Ensure that all assets acquired are accurately recorded and updated in the asset register.
    • Conduct regular audits to reconcile physical assets with recorded entries in the asset register.
    • Establish maintenance schedules for assets to ensure their optimal functionality, longevity, and collaborate with service providers and maintenance teams to ensure timely execution of maintenance activities (minimise downtime and disruptions to store operations).
    • Implement strategies for selling or disposing of assets that are no longer needed or are obsolete.

    Security Measures and Risk Mitigation

    • Collaborate with security providers to establish and implement appropriate security measures for the store and fuel sites.
    • Collaborate with security providers to ensure that security protocols, such as CCTV systems, access controls, and alarms, are effectively deployed to safeguard the store's assets and staff.
    • Collaborate with security providers to conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and areas of concern within the store's and fuel site’s operations.
    • Collaborate with security providers to develop and implement mitigation strategies to proactively address identified risks and minimise their impact.

    Compliance and Legal Requirements

    • Implement practices and policies across the store and fuel site that align with legal standards and promote compliance (e.g. legal and health and safety compliance).
    • Take effective action to rectify any legal or regulatory compliance issues that may arise.
    • Collaborate with legal experts and internal teams to resolve compliance matters with efficiency and accuracy.
    • Collaborate with procurement and relevant departments to define clear and comprehensive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
    • Ensure that SLAs outline specific expectations, performance metrics, response times, and responsibilities to create a mutual understanding.

     Vendor Management and Service Level Agreements

    • Collaborate with procurement and relevant departments to define clear and comprehensive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
    • Ensure that SLAs outline specific expectations, performance metrics, response times, and responsibilities to create a mutual understanding.
    • Continuously monitor vendor performance against established SLAs, and identify any deviations from SLAs and evaluate their impact on operations

    Capital Projects and Enhancements

    • Develop comprehensive plans for branch and fuel site revamp or upgrade projects to enhance the appearance, functionality, and customer experience.
    • Collaborate with relevant teams to define project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
    • Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring alignment with budgets and design specifications.
    • Ensure that routine maintenance tasks are performed consistently to maintain a safe and visually appealing store environment for both customers and employees.

    Lead, Manage and Mobilise Branch Managers

    • Execute the company vision and values, communicate the vision to all relevant parties, and ensure that the vision is understood and turned into action at all stores within business.
    • Review implementation on an ongoing basis, ensuring that all behaviours, decisions and actions within teams are aligned to the company vision and values.
    • Identify where change and transformation is needed within store management teams.
    • Initiate and manage the change/transformation process in order to ensure improved performance, and that there is commitment towards the change.
    • Demonstrate good ethical conduct at all times, and ensure that leadership practices are always consistent with healthy staff morale.
    • Ensure that store structures are aligned to ideal staffing structures and that personnel expenses are controlled and in line with budget.

    Requirements

    • A bachelor's degree in agriculture, business administration, marketing, project management or a related field is typically required.
    • At least 5 years’ experience with 3 years in a senior management role.
    • Experience in a retail environment will be advantageous.
