    Monitoring & Evaluations Intern

    Description

    • NACOSA is looking for a (M&E) Intern to join our team as part of the SEF Project. The M&E Intern will support the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer in capturing, cleaning, verifying, and managing data for the SEF Programme.
    • This role is designed to provide practical experience in M&E practices, particularly related to data quality management, reporting, and verification processes. The intern will gain exposure to field-level implementation, national-level reporting systems, and donor reporting frameworks.

    The duties and responsibilities of the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Intern will include, but not limited to:

    • Capture programmatic data accurately into M&E databases (Excel or programme-specific systems) and ensure timely submission of tools from implementing teams.
    • Assist with digitizing, archiving, and maintaining organized physical and digital M&E files.
    • Support cleaning of raw data to ensure accuracy and consistency, flagging errors to the M&E Officer while following confidentiality protocols.
    • Participate in routine data verification activities, including spot checks and site visits, and help prepare verification reports under supervision.
    • Verify data against physical source documents during fieldwork.
    • Assist in compiling and formatting routine M&E reports for internal or donor use.
    • Document lessons learned or challenges from data collection and reporting activities.
    • Attend internal M&E trainings, shadow the M&E Officer, and engage in knowledge-sharing sessions to build skills.
    • Work with field teams to understand the programmatic context of data.
    • Provide administrative support for meetings, workshops, training sessions, and ad hoc M&E tasks (e.g., scanning, filing, tool development)

    Requirements

    • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Diploma/Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Statistics, or a related field.
    • Proficiency in English, Afrikaans, and any other official African language (advantageous).
    • Code B driver’s license.
    • Work experience required; voluntary, internship, or academic research experience in data management or M&E is advantageous. 

    Personal Competencies 

    • Computer literate with strong Excel and Microsoft Word skills (MS Package).
    • Basic knowledge of M&E concepts, data flow, and attention to detail.
    • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in at least one South African language (advantageous).
    • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and adapt to dynamic environments.
    • Willingness to occasionally travel to field sites under supervision.
    • Interest in M&E and community-based programmes, with curiosity and proactive learning attitude.
    • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
