    National Fleet Controller (Bellville )

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    • The National Fleet Controller will play a pivotal role in supporting the National Logistics Manager in achieving an efficient and well-managed fleet. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations. 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Asset Management:

    • With the National Fleet Manager, manage and oversee the fleet assets within Econo Foods and Taylor Made Foods, ensuring optimal utilization and fuel efficiency.
    • Monitor and report on daily diesel consumption, taking corrective actions for unacceptable levels.
    • Monitor and report on driver behaviour, utilizing the fleet telematics systems in place.  Take necessary action to drive addressing of incorrect behaviour on a regional level.

    Vehicle and Trailer Oversight:

    • Ensure all vehicles and trailers under your control are within service limits and legally licensed, by equipping regional teams with the appropriate reporting and tools.
    • Report breakdowns to the branch manager and address new damages or defects promptly.
    • Develop and maintain schedules for vehicle maintenance, inspections, and deliveries.
    • Ensure the fleet image is kept at a high standard and reflective of our proud brand.

    Administrative and Documentation:

    • Attend to general administration and documentation management on a daily basis.
    • Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and compliance documentation.

    Fuel Management:

    • Monitor and manage fuel consumption to control costs and reduce environmental impact.
    • Implement systems to track fuel cards and optimize fuel efficiency.

    Compliance and Regulations:

    • Stay informed about and ensure compliance with national and local transportation regulations.
    • Conduct accident/incident investigations and submit required documentation.

    Cost Management:

    • Support the National Fleet Manager in the development and management of budgets related to fleet operations, including maintenance, fuel, and vehicle acquisition costs.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement strategies to reduce operational expenses.
    • Support lean logistics initiatives and work closely with the Warehouse and Distribution teams to achieve targets set.

    Technology Integration:

    • Implement and manage fleet tracking systems to monitor vehicle locations, performance, and driver behaviour.
    • Utilize telematics technology to gather data on vehicle usage, driver behaviour, and maintenance needs.

    Safety and Risk Management:

    • Implement safety programs and policies to ensure driver well-being and reduce the risk of accidents.
    • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with fleet operations.

    Communication and Collaboration:

    • Communicate with Regional Teams, the Logistics Central office team, Suppliers, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as logistics, supply chain, and finance, to optimize organizational efficiency.
    • Travel to the various company locations to offer support to the regional teams, and to assist with overall fleet management improvement nationally.

    Emergency Response:

    • Develop and implement plans for responding to emergencies or accidents involving fleet vehicles.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess fleet operations' efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies for continuous improvement.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Matric certificate or equivalent qualification (would be an advantage). 
    • Familiarity with vehicle tracking systems (Geotab, Mix, Cartrack, and/or Fleet IT).
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in controlling a large fleet complement.
    • Vehicle stock control knowledge.
