    National – Maintenance Manager (Low LSM)

    Role Purpose

    • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of all maintenance operations across the Low LSM network. The role ensures the reliability, safety, compliance, and operational efficiency of all company facilities, infrastructure, fibre network support assets, and power systems.
    • This position is accountable for designing and implementing best practice maintenance and facilities standards, managing preventative and corrective maintenance programmes, ensuring compliance with legal and safety requirements, managing contractors and internal maintenance teams, and driving continuous operational improvements.
    • The role further ensures optimal resource utilisation, budget control, SLA compliance, quality assurance, and customer service excellence while maintaining a minimum facility power uptime target of 99.9%.

    Key Job Objectives

    • Design, obtain approval for, and implement best practice maintenance and facilities specifications.
    • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on maintenance and facilities performance metrics.
    • Oversee all maintenance operations relating to buildings, infrastructure, fibre network support, facilities, and associated assets.
    • Develop preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance strategies.
    • Ensure operational availability and reliability of all maintenance infrastructure.
    • Maintain a minimum facility power uptime target of 99.9%.
    • Coordinate and manage all maintenance ticket resolution activities.
    • Optimise maintenance processes to minimise downtime and operational risk.
    • Manage maintenance teams, contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure service excellence.
    • Develop operational budgets, cost recovery reports, stock management, stock forecasting and expenditure management processes.
    • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, safety regulations, insurance requirements, and legal obligations.
    • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across the Maintenance and Facilities function.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Operational Management

    • Lead the Maintenance and Facilities Department across all Low LSM operational regions.
    • Manage daily maintenance operations and service delivery.
    • Supervise Regional Supervisors and maintenance teams.
    • Allocate resources effectively to maximise operational efficiency.
    • Delegate responsibilities while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Mentor, coach, and develop maintenance personnel and provide continuous training for both contractors and internal resources.
    • Drive a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.

    Maintenance & Facilities Management

    • Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
    • Ensure buildings, facilities, equipment, walkways, and infrastructure are maintained to operational standards.
    • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.
    • Monitor maintenance performance and proactively address equipment failures.

    Design and improve facilities specifications, including:

    • Power infrastructure
    • Facility layouts
    • Risk mitigation strategies
    • Operational standards
    • Oversee warehousing and stock management for the Field Force Maintenance Division.
    • Ensure effective management of company and client assets.

    Power Infrastructure Management

    • Manage all facility power systems.
    • Develop and implement power management strategies.
    • Ensure continuous power availability with a target uptime of 99.9%.
    • Monitor backup power systems and contingency planning.

    Financial Management

    • Prepare operational budgets.
    • Monitor maintenance expenditure.

    Control costs relating to:

    • Labour
    • Spare parts
    • Materials
    • Equipment
    • Contractors
    • Produce monthly operational expense reports.
    • Prepare cost recovery reports.
    • Identify opportunities for operational savings and efficiencies.

    Quality Assurance & Compliance

    • Develop and maintain quality management processes.
    • Conduct operational audits.
    • Produce detailed audit reports with findings and recommendations.
    • Monitor implementation of corrective actions.

    Ensure compliance with:

    • Company policies
    • Industry standards
    • Health and Safety legislation
    • Insurance requirements
    • Internal governance standards
    • Review and update operational standards, policies, procedures, and specifications.

    Stakeholder & Vendor Management

    • Manage relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
    • Coordinate support services to ensure operational requirements are met.
    • Manage contractor performance.
    • Conduct vendor performance reviews.
    • Engage with senior management regarding operational performance.
    • Manage escalated customer issues, incidents, outages, and legal matters where required.

    Performance Reporting

    Prepare and present:

    • Monthly reports
    • Quarterly reports
    • Annual operational reports
    • Develop and maintain maintenance dashboards and reporting templates.
    • Monitor SLA and OLA compliance.
    • Analyse operational trends and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records and source data.

    Administration

    • Complete departmental administration accurately and timeously.
    • Maintain maintenance documentation.
    • Manage maintenance records and reporting systems.
    • Respond to operational queries.
    • Support cross-functional communication.
    • Assist Network Operations Centre (NOC) Management with operational resolutions.

    Training & Continuous Improvement

    • Develop maintenance procedures and training documentation.
    • Implement continuous skills development programmes.
    • Promote operational innovation.
    • Identify process improvements.
    • Conduct gap analyses and implement improvement initiatives.

    Required Qualifications

    Essential

    • Grade 12 (Matric)

    Preferred

    Relevant tertiary qualification in:

    Experience

    • Minimum 5 years' experience in Telecommunications Management.
    • Experience managing maintenance operations.

    • Experience within fibre optic network infrastructure is advantageous.
