Pharmacist Interns X2 at Lenmed Private Hospitals

Main Focus Areas

• The Pharmacist Intern will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team, under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist The incumbent will also assume responsibility for meeting patients’ needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

• Dispense prescriptions, in both hospital and retail dispensary
• Ensure maximum safety of patients by providing advice on the appropriate selection, dosage and drug interaction, potential side effects and therapeutic effects of medicines
• Supervise and control the acquisition, storage, dispensing
• Stock control – maintain stock areas and adequate stock rotation. Conduct monthly cycle counts and quarterly stock takes
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders (internal/external) regarding out of stock situations and providing suitable alternatives
• Patient ward rounds (clinical and experience focused)
• Antibiotic Stewardship Committee involvement
• Act as custodian for the management of Schedule 5 & 6 drugs as per legal requirements
• Cover shifts as per pharmacy operating hours including weekends, public holidays.
• Be able to work independently as a productive member of a team depending on the situation

Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

• A relevant pharmaceutical qualification (B.Pharm)
• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council
• Sound knowledge of pharmacy business operations
• Computer Literate
• Shift Working
