Plant Engineer - (Jacobs) - Durban at Defy Appliances

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
• Government Certificate of Competencies Factory
• Strong technical knowledge of plant machinery and equipment.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and strategies.
• Understanding of safety regulations and compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of SAP
• Key Knowledge of disciplinary procedures
• Previous experience with Automation / Robotics will be an added advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure plant operations comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
• Implement safety protocols, conduct safety inspections, and oversee compliance with relevant regulations and permits.

Quality Assurance

• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure product quality meets established standards.
• Identify root causes of quality issues, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve manufacturing processes to enhance product quality.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving

• Respond to equipment failures, production disruptions, and other technical issues as they arise.
• Diagnose problems, develop solutions, and implement corrective measures to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
• Maintain an inventory of spare parts and consumables required for equipment maintenance and repair.
• Coordinate with suppliers, procure necessary parts, and manage stock levels to ensure availability while optimizing costs.

Team Leadership and Training

• Provide training and technical support to plant personnel on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
• Share knowledge and best practices to develop a culture of continuous learning and skill development among team members.
• Supervise and provide leadership to maintenance technicians, engineers, and other plant personnel
• Coach and mentor team members, provide technical guidance, and support skill development through training and professional development initiatives

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and modifications
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, maintenance logs, equipment history, and performance data
• Prepare reports on plant performance, equipment reliability, maintenance activities, and project status for management review
• Generate reports on equipment performance, maintenance costs, and downtime to assess the effectiveness of maintenance strategies and propose improvements

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

• Develop a planned maintenance preventative program to proactively address equipment maintenance needs
• Create maintenance schedules, conduct regular inspections and perform preventive maintenance tasks whilst keeping detailed records of all maintenance activities
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
• Identify root causes and implement effective corrective measures
• Coordinating repairs to minimize downtime

Process Optimization

• Analyse production processes and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Efficiency improvements and cost reduction
• Implement changes and improvements to enhance productivity and quality while reducing waste and energy consumption.

Project Management

• Plan and execute engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and modifications.
• Develop project plans, manage budgets, coordinate with contractors and vendors, and ensure projects are completed on time and within specifications.
