    Plant Manager

    Job Advert Summary    

    The Plant Manager is responsible for achieving the lowest cost product status in cement operations in a safe and sustainable manner at a constant level of quality for reliable availability of product for the PPC customer base.

    This role is also responsible for running the plants according to the business unit strategy and managing operational efficiencies while complying with all legal responsibilities in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences (NQF Level 8) or BEng or BSc Mining Engineering (NQF Level 8)
    • Postgraduate degree in a Natural Science or Engineering is advantageous (NQF Level 8)
    • Driver License
    • Operational general management experience (5 - 8 years) in cement or related manufacturing industry
    • People management experience (5 years)

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    Plant Management:

    • Oversee the implementation of the strategic framework and objectives for the Plant and lead the achievement of the strategy
    • Continuously review plans and systems to achieve operational targets and drive achievement of strategy through operational support
    • Oversee the compilation of business plans in all departments at the Plant and manage operational efficiencies across the Plant
    • Review and integrate Operational business plans considering strategic intent to accomplish long term goals and implement remedial actions where necessary
    • Review Plant performance considering agreed standards and targets as well as overseeing the resolution of performance issues
    • Oversee the provision of shared services (Admin, Stores, HR, Engineering, Risk and Projects) to ensure objectives are achieved
    • Maintain good corporate social responsibility for the organisation and enforce adherence to organisational social responsibility strategies

    Compliance, Governance and Reporting:

    • Enforce adherence to established Compliance frameworks (based on legislative, national and PPC SHARP Protocol)
    • Manage safety, health, and environmental obligations against the relevant regulations and legislation to ensure and encourage a safe working environment
    • Partner with the Risk team to deliver on all risk and governance requirements
    • Monitor all site inspections and sign off on inspection documents

    Stakeholder Management:

    • Promote and establish active, informative relations with internal and external stakeholders that result in PPC being energized and aligned
    • Facilitate solutions that result in team goal and objective attainment
    • Act as representative of the organisation at stakeholder forums
    • Manage expectations within mandate and protocol to enhance the PPC's image, reputation, and relationships with all stakeholders
    • Maintain a high standard of customer service to both internal and external stakeholders

    People Management:

    • Manage the performance of direct reports and monitor adherence to expected standards.
    • Offer guidance and support and if required take appropriate disciplinary action
    • Coach and train team members to perform optimally in their roles
    • Provide direct reports with opportunities for growth and development through on-the-job training and feedback
    • Participate in the selection and appointment of new team members
    • Support the onboarding of new team members
    • Conduct regular meetings and promote open and ongoing communication with the team
    • Approve the leave of direct reports and manage overtime where applicable

    Budget Management:

    • Prepare the annual departmental budget for submission to line manager for review and approval
    • Approve expenditure within delegation of authority level
    • Monitor expenditure against approved budget, reporting on any deviations to the line manager and Finance Department
