Principal Data Analyst at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, preferably relevant bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Quantitative Social Science, or Engineering, or any field with strong quantitative elements
• At least 8 years’ relevant experience

We are looking for:

• Extensive experience as a data analyst, with a portfolio of data analytic projects you've led.
• A strong foundation in statistics
• The proven ability to communicate complex findings to non-technical audiences and influence senior stakeholders.
• A passion for mentoring and a "lead by example" mindset.
• Proficiency in SQL, R and or Python is valued
• Experience with self-service analytic tools.

Key Performance Areas

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand City needs and translate these into analytic questions, designing appropriate approaches and solutions using statistical methods.
• Develop and deploy statistical models & data products using appropriate algorithms and techniques.
• Ensure the smooth and continued functioning of the models & data products
• Effectively communicate technical findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, reports, and visualizations
• Contribute to the establishment, implementation and adoption of guidelines, standards, best practices and governance systems and frameworks for the data analytic & AI community of the city
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in, statistics and related fields. Proactively identify opportunities to apply new techniques and technologies to improve our data capabilities.
• Create, maintain, and improve high-quality documentation of data analytic processes
• Lead and contribute to the delivery of projects, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently on time, within scope, and with effective communication
