Prison Guide at Robben Island Museum (RIM)

Key performance areas: 

• Refer to the tour schedule to obtain tour times and numbers of visitors 
• Verify the appropriate vehicle and driver are available, check tour guide equipment, 
• Acquaint the tourist with the tour structure, amenities and rules and regulations of RIM; 
• Conduct the tour of Robben Island Museum highlighting information related to political history, history of the prison, history of the built and natural environment. 
• Contextualise the history of the world and relate it to the history of Robben Island; 
• Manage stops during the tour. 
• Search for the information relating to Robben Island history and political issues; 
• Participate in discussions, forums, meetings and training sessions within or outside Robben Island Museum; 
• Discuss and expand on information, design and insert information into the tour; 
• General administrative duties. 

 Experience and technical skills: 

• Ex-political prisoners of Robben Island with knowledge on the history of the prison 
• One year experience will be an advantage. 
• Fluent in at least 2 SA official Languages 
• Foreign language – optional but an advantage 
• Computer Literacy
